Note that our 08 F-350 Ford get the is doing the same as Allen's 08 Chevy towing and that is what we have seen while on the road with other late model Chevy and Ford drivers. The Cummings also gets near the same..a bit better I think. Although I drive diesels of all makes near every day (bus driver) the Ford is my first very own diesel and we are very satisfied with the performance and MPG.. These are big trucks pulling big campers. Oh..and the Ford is several hundred lbs heaver that the Chevy and the Dodge..

Rich,

I have a friend with an older Ford F-250 gas driven. He is looking at getting a new F-250 King Ranch Super Duty with the 6.4L engine. Since you're vehicle has this engine, I will respect your comments and pass them on. This friend doesn't want to trust the words of his salesman.

I've told him about my satisfaction with the 7.3 TurboDiesel in my F350 Dually, and that he could always shop around for an early 2000's truck. He wants new, though.

I'm traveling to Texas tomorrow, and told him I would look to see if a local truck dealer there has a black King Ranch - his preferred truck color. I'm telling him to look at the F-350, or even the F-450, in case he wants to expand his towing limits.

Thank you for any comments you can send my way regarding your engine.

John

Harv, I think your towing mileage is very decent. I think your solo mileage is just a bit low for the Dodge but the 4.10 axle might account for some of that. And I also don't know your driving habits, speed, terrain, wind, etc, all of which affect mileage.

I have the 6.7L Cummins and routinely get 18 to 21 solo and sometimes a bit better. I rarely drive faster than 70 mph solo, though as I have found mileage drops above 70 rather quickly.

Towing I don't get as good as you're getting, most of the time. Mine has 36,375 miles, of which 12,219 are towing this 3400RL (14,620 scaled pounds). I'd estimate 80% of the time we get between 10.5 and 11.5 mpg towing. The best we've ever done on a trip of at least 200 miles is 13.2. The worst is 9.8 and that was on the first two days of towing this Montana with this truck when it was brand new. That was in eastern Ohio hills and Pennsylvania mountains on two lane roads and running no more than 50 mph (to break in the rear end per the manual) so we were not even in 6th gear. Running in 5th all the time had to affect mileage negatively.

This Dodge has the 3.73 rear end, 6.7L Cummins, and six-speed automatic.

Just came back from a 3029 mile trip. Started in Ottawa Ontario cross Quebec, New Brunswick and Nava Scotia and back. Lots of hills and driving at 55 to 70.
My 06 RAM 3500, Dually, 4X4, 410 ratio gave me a 12.6 MPG US based on actual numbers.
