I've seen an eagle with a squirrel in its talons struggle to gain altitude, we have had ospreys perch on nearby trees to feed off fish taken from the creek out back or retention pond across the street, and just 2 days ago a hawk swoop down from a tree, nail a 18" to 2 foot long snake in its talons, fly to a nearby tree, snack on it for a second or two and then take off with it. Don't know what happened, but the snake or at least part of it fell and landed on a neighbor's roof. Just think how you would react if your were doing some yard work and a snake fell out of the sky near you.
