Cleaning the carpet
We have been in our 3400RL full time for over four months now. We sprung for the central vac (love it!) and bought the after market carpet beater head that was recommended by this forum. The carpet could now use a good cleaning. I have contemplated having one of the mobile carpet cleaning companies that service stick houses come out and clean the carpet. Anyone had any experience with any method (e.g., steam extraction, dry chemical, etc.)? I am not too thrilled with the prospect of getting on my hands and knees and scrubbing the entire carpeted area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Since we still own a stick house (soon to be sold) we still have our carpet cleaner. We just got through doing the Monty with it and I'm going to do the recliners also. (Tested a spot on the recliner and it is okay). Ours, a Hoover, uses water (heated) and we have done it several times with no problems. We open all the vents and the door.
Happy trails........................

Have seen people have the commercial trucks/machines come into a campground. We are using our home machine, but would not hesitate to have a commercial cleaning.

We had our carpet cleaned by a local professional before we left for CA. He has cleaned the carpet in our home for years. I like the professional extraction; leaves carpet almost dry! Takes less than a couple of hours to fully dry out. Looked awesome when he finished. With three pets in the monty and full timing, I am thinking about having it done again soon.

I'm sure any method will be fine - the last time I got on my hands and knees to clean the carpet in our Layton and the carbon monoxide alarm went off - took me a minute to realize it was the chemicals in the carpet cleaner -LOL!

We are also living in our rig for the next year. We've cleaned our carpet and upholstery using a rented machine, Rug Doctor, I think. You can rent them at Home Depot or many grocery stores. You'll want to rent the upholstery attachment as well for the tight spots. Works great, takes a few hours to dry. I think the rental cost about $30 for 24 hours, plus buying the cleaning solution.

Helen spot cleans about every day as these carpets seem to spot easily. We have matching throw rugs in the high traffic areas but of course just about everyplace in a camper is a high traffic area.We are encouraged to hear that commercial carpet cleaners are being used without damage to the carpet. We got that beater attachment for the vacuum and it works great..It is a bit pricy but worth it in cleaning power.

As Parrothead stated, open all the windows and vents while letting the carpet dry. Our dealer did our carpets as part of the purchase negotiations, but then closed it up and let it sit in the sun. They then had to re-glue some of the wallpaper as the moisture from the carpet started to let the wallpaper bubble.
