K&N Air Filter

Sometime ago seemed many people were using the K&N air filters. I have used one for 3 years with no problem.
Today it seems like their may be a different perception as to how good the filters are.
Do you use one? Thanks,

Weldon

Example..K&N does NOT make a filter for the 05 Ford V-10.When questioned they said that the Ford filter is as good or better than the filter they could make.So perhaps the Original equipmet is improving.I always used a K%N filter in my previous TV's.

I have a 2001 7.3 and use a K&N filter on it. You have to keep your eye on the filter minder and check it and keep the filter clean.

I use an AFE with a sock. It is quite a bit larger than the stock air filter. This filter, along with a straight thru, 51", big truck muffler is supposed to help the motor to breath better, and lower EGT's, by allowing increased air flow.

I have the K&N that just replaces the stock filter in the stock housing. Haven't really noticed much drop in EGTs and have had it on for only 2000 miles, so I haven't had to clean it yet.

I don't think the filter will help as far as egt's are concerned. A bigger exhaust will do more to lower egt.

I just insalled a K&N filter as a replacement for the stock filter. I have not noticed anything yet but it has only been a few thousand miles. I hope someone that has had one for awhile will respond with some information for all of us to consider. Thanks for the post.

Personally, I don't believe all of the claims some manufacturers make about their after-market products and would like to know if the micron particle size being filtered by K&N is as good or better than stock air filters.

I read one thread where someone chipped his Diesel and always used synthetic oil for longer change intervals with very good performance improvements. He monitored the results by doing an oil analysis after every oil change. When he switched to a K&N airfilter, the silicon count in the analysis went way up, indicating less filtration, more sand sucked in.

This has sort of stuck in my mind and I keep on using better filtration products - for air and oil and change the filters more often. Just my little 'ole opinion.
Safe travels to everybody!
