Tow Vehicle

My wife and I just returned from the Harrisburg RV Show. We both really liked the 3500RL. I put down a deposit pending my vehicle specs. I own a 2500 duramax 4x4 c.c. I am retirering in Jan '06 and we plan on being on the road for 4 months(Snowbirds)a year. Will my vehicle handle the load and does anyone have a similiar set up? Thanks much, waiting your replies.dk

You should not have a problem. I am pulling a 3295RK with an F-250 7.3 PSD and it handles it very well. I did have to add air bags, but otherwise milage is acceptable and I am very happy with the way it tows.

Your truck has plenty of power if it has the Duramax diesel or the 8.1 gas engine. I am sure there will be several replies to your questions. We tow with a 2005 2500HD GMC Crew cab with a Duramax. Our trailer is a 3475 Montana that weights about the same. Prior to the new truck, we towed with a 2000 Ford F350 diesel. The GMC appears to have more pickup and better mileage.
Congratulations on the new Montana. We do about the same and winter in Florida along with taking trips nearby in the summer.

I tow my 3400RL with a 2500HD Chevy Duramax Crew cab with no trouble. Should work well with your new 3500RL.

I tow my 3555RL with my F-250 Power Stroke with no problem. The Duramax is a real horse. You'll have no problems.

There are many here towing the same weight with the same or similar trucks. Any of the big three diesels will do just fine for you as will the big gas engines. Good luck and welcome aboard. The 3500 is a beaut!

Dennis,

I just returned from my inaugural 4000 mile trip. We have a 2005 3500RL and the TV is a 2005 HD2500 4WD SB. It was fabulous. The 5ver pulled fantastically. Bottom line is that we enjoyed the RV more than any home we have owned.

I have made some modifications to the truck and 3500 RL. I had Firestone self leveling airbags installed. Although you may not need them, I find that it does keep both the TV and 3500RL level. I also installed a MOR/RYDE pin box on the 5ver. I firmly believe if I had not, that Cindy ould still be bouncing a week after the trip .

Probably the most impact for the dollars was the purchase of the Pullrite Superglide hitch. Unfortunately another RVer attempted to make the same sharp turn I did and did not engage their manual manuvering handle on their hitch. As a result, they punched out their rear window on a new Duramax SB.

Good luck and if you have any questions you are more than welcome to contact me. Just PM and I'll provide a telephone number if you want to converse directly or email.

WE have a 2004 2500 HD CC SRW pulling our 3650 RK Monty for over a year now and are really pleased with the combo. We are full timing it, but currently are in Michigan in the Summer and Florida in the Winter and travel down 77 through the hills with no problems. We are completely stock with no airbags and no need for a slide hitch. Congratulations on your new Monty and hope you enjoy as much as we have.
