Just bought my first Montana

Hi all,

I just put a deposit on a new Montana 3500RL. I was looking at the 3400RL but really like the rear media room.

This decision was based on this forum and other forums recommendations. I was considering the Carriage unit, and it is nice, but for 25% more dollars, it's not that nice.

I hope to begin fulltiming in September. Any accessories ya'll think I should get? I am getting a W/D combo and 2nd A/C (Houston is HOT). Would you recommend any particular discount memberships? Any preventive maintenance ideas? I don't want to mess this beautiful unit up.

I'm so excited. Now to just get "momma" as excited. She always worries about the $$$$$.

Congratulations on your purchase of a beautiful unit. You made your decision based on the same fact that enticed most of us to buy a Montana....more bang for your buck.

You'll soon find that outfitting a Monty can be a consuming but fun hobby. Look under the 'improvements' topic and you'll get lots of ideas. If you're going to travel, Passport America gives you a good bargain on campsites.

And you better read up on the gathering in the Valley in the fall/spring. It's growing into a big event and you'll be able to pick up a lot of ideas from the folks gathering there.

Enjoy that Monty.

Congratulations on the new Montana - that's a beautiful unit. Hope "momma" gets as excited about it as you are. I also worry about the $$$, but you can't take it with you and you might just as well be comfortable while you are here, especially if you are going to be fulltiming. I'm sure she'll enjoy it once she starts outfitting it and adding her own homey touches. Enjoy the adventure!

Congratulations on the new Monty! Half the fun is the anticipation of its arrival and then setting things up to your liking. Enjoy!

One of the "tricks" we picked up from another MOC member to help make the "house" more homey is to add several small 110v lamps around the rig. Makes for a much softer light. Much more homey. Also rearrange furniture to suit. Add tables, etc., as fits your lifestyle. Personalize. Etc.

Good luck. Nice choice on the new 3500. That's my current favorite model but we also liked the 3400 and some of the others. That room in the back is ideal for viewing TV while someone else is sleeping upstairs. And it would be great for our granddaughters when they are visiting.

Ah, yes, Greta is one of the quietest and enjoyable pups we've been around! And adorable, too.

Welcome to the MOC and fulltiming in Houston! We started our fulltiming adventure a few months ago and are located up in The Woodlands (Rayford RV Resort). As for the memberships, we've only located a couple of member resorts in town (Western Horizons and Thousand Trails, both in Conroe). we checked out the Western Horizons, but found that it did not suit our needs (great place otherwise!). As you will find in other threads, many in the MOC recommend Passport America and Good Sam.

What part of town do you plan to base out of?

I don't know where you are in Houston, but it is guaranteed hot in Clear Lake. Congratulations on your new Montana and welcome to the forum. You were smart to get the additional air. We needed ours this week.
