air bags, timbren, other or none

I ordered a new Ram 3500 DRW 4x4 and was wondering if any of you driving a 4th generation Ram could advise if you added anything to the rear suspension or if stock will gave a reasonable ride and keep the truck reasonable level. I have always used timbrens and really like them, but since truck won't be here for a while I am getting information and parts I will need when it arrives. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Don

Currently pulling our Montana (3665RE) with a 2011 Dodge 2500HD and at present don't need anything else beyond the suspension that came on it. What will happen a few years down the road when the suspension ages I'll just have to watch and wait. Right now it's doing fine straight from the factory.

Have the same truck, but a 2010. Pulling a 3750FL, no need for anything to pull level

I would try it stock first and then Timbrens if it needs anything. Had air bags and preferred Timbrens now.

I have air bags and the reason why is a very smart guy asked me this; Do you want to pay $$$$$$ for new suspension when it sags or do you pay $300 to prevent it.

I put Firestone ride rites on mine. Not really needed as I only run 15psi in them but it does control what little bouncing there is better than stock, though stock is still a pretty comfortable ride. The real reason for them is I will get around to moving the three spacers on the bottom of the spring stack to the top of the spring stack, lowering the truck about an inch and a half. Then the airbags will be used to adjust ride/height. The 4x4 duallys ride pretty high so the fiver rides a little nose high. The B&W hitch is at it's lowest setting and the pinbox is at it's highest.

Don,

I have the Timbrens on my truck.

Here is a few links of my previous posts about my sag.

http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=42491
http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=42785

My issue was that when sitting in my driveway that runs downhill, the truck looked like it was sagging really bad. After I took it out to level ground it was Fine, but I still put the Timbrens on anyhow.

I'm sure you will love the truck, we do.....

My 3500 Chev DRW handles our 3455 with no problems. I'd suggest wait and see. Larry

Thanks for sharing. I guess I will wait until I get truck and hook up and check it out. I just wanted to have everything ready when it gets here.

I put a set of Timbrems on a 2005 Chevy 2500HD, because I had to much pin weight. Took them off after the first trip and replaced the Truck with a GM 3500HD. Thats when I begin to see that gadgets just doesn't work for me.. I know for a fact the GM 3500HD's don't need any thing. The suspension are great and the 2011's have best suspension GM has done so for.. I haven't ever used airbags like firestone etc. The only airbags on the suspension was under the Chevy Kodiak 4500 (Link air ride system) and the system that was under my Freightliner. Good Luck with you decision... Happy Trails...

Try it out first before spending any money. I have Firestone bags on our srw 3500. I have a TT with about 1500 lbs on the hitch and haul a lot of stuff in the back of my truck. I needed them and like em.

Don, The only thing I would have waiting is a TRAILERSAVER AIR HITCH FROM HENSLEY. Once you have that and have everything hooked up, you can check for level and either adjust the hitch, or the hitch pin, then If needed add to the truck. Although I don't have them I think air bags on the truck are nice to KEEP FROM BOTTOMING OUT, which was the original use of air bags.

I agree the Trailer Saver is the best investment a RVer can make, the TS solves many problems. On a rare occasion you can find the TS on sell.. But its rare.. Most never let the TS go.. Happy Trails...
