mail service

Due to unreliable kids here I was thinking of getting some mail service for the 5 months we are away. Any info would be appreciated. Good Sam, Escapees...any others and which is best?

We use the UPS Store. This gives us a street address to use and they also can sign for packages, etc. They will forward any mail you wish forwarded to wherever you wish. We use it at home, too, because when I was still working, we had problems with the U.S. Postal Service, such as missing checks, and misdelivered and missing mail. We are very pleased with them. They also give a discount for Good Sam members.

We have been using a UPS store in Anchorage for four years now. Several screw-ups on their part, like forgetting to forward mail when I asked and sending to wrong address once. Human error can happen anywhere. Nice folks and only game in town (Anchorage, AK). Now that we are settling into Arizona we will probably cancel and change our permanent address to here.

I am a retired US Postal Service employee so UPS would feel too funky for me. Good Sam or Escapee info and experiences anyone?

Wow! We actually use the post office. Once a week they forward our mail to the address we provided. Since the firs month and a half of travel is to see relatives we set up a schedule for the post office to forward mail to. There is a fee, can't remember how much. Every Wednesday they forward it and we have it in Friday's mail box. After the last stop, and we are on the way home, we just put a hold on it.

We have been using Americas Mailbox in Rapid City, South Dakota, for the past 6 years. We have been very happy with their service...which also includes standing in line for vehicle registration/re-registration. That is a very nice service. Check out their web page at http://www.americas-mailbox.com/.

We have been using the Escapees mail service for seven years now without a hiccup and highly recommend it. We can call or go online and tell them when and where to send it on whatever schedule we want. It costs us $85/year plus postage.

We just signed up with Escapees after looking into alternatives. I like the service that you can call them and ask them to read a letter, or bill, or whatever to you on the phone.

Escapees is excellent. So is Alternative Resources in Sioux Falls. We have used AR for 6 years now and never had a problem. We also used South Dakota for our domicile until just recently when we became official Floridians but we still use them for our mail forwarding service... I have seen the Escapees mail room in Texas and it is a huge operation that is first class and I have several friends that use their services. You can't go wrong with either of them.

Escapees is a wonderful organization. Do join them if you can and come to their Escapade Rally in Wyoming this year. We will be there working as staff members. You will learn so much about the full time lifestyle. You can read all about them on the Escapees forum. www.escapees.com

We use Americas Mailbox in Box Elder,SD, for 8 years. They just moved from Rapid City about a mile out by the Air Base . We are very happy with the service. They have a lot of extra services like others if you want to pay for them. web page at http://www.americas-mailbox.com/.

We have a good neighbor. Total access to our mail. All our mail is 99.9% electronic or internet. She forward via Priority box about once a month to wherever we give her our address. We give her Priority boxes and cash to mail. Works great!

It is that 99.9% electronic that is the key Joanie. We are the same so only have our mail forwarded when necessary. If you get your statements all on line like we do, be sure to call them and tell them not to send any junk mail to your address. (Penney's. Belk etc,)and if you get magazines, most of them now come e-mail too if you want them that way.

thanks Helen...we went paperless a year ago but there is the odd pieces that I need to know about. We used a post office box near my son's home last year and he was really casual about it. He wouldn't pick up the mail for a couple of weeks at a time!! He just graduated last week Magna Cum Laude with 2 BA degrees and is planning on med school next year so I know he isn't to stupid to know how to read!! I really like the neighbor connection idea. We have great neighbors.

Joanie, there are some great mail forwarding services out there. Not to overemphasize, but because we are nearly all electronic, the mail we get is usually magazines, bulk and a few 1st class. It generally cost $10-12 per box. Judy gives our neighbor a gift card on our return for her efforts and care. Good luck on whatever you decide.
