Frame under pin box

Now that I am home from Texas and my pin box was fixed by a Lippert welder, I wonder how many other frames had this problem? Even when I was calling Keystone and the dealer I received a call from a couple with a couger fifth wheel stating they also had there pin box break and where at the same dealer that I was working with. The same welder fixed there fifth wheel also.

Jimkottke, thanks for the information. Do you happen to have pictures showing where it broke?

What is the year and model you are referring to? I guess since this problem occurs enough times it can occur on pretty much anything.

We have reduced our travel because of the fuel prices and we take care of our grandson when his parents are at work, but for you more frequent travelers and some of these rough roads and the seemingly inconsistent welding manufacturing, this has got to be a curiosity. I don't think about this when I'm on the road. I look in the rear window rarely, but when I do I don't see anything strange.... yet.

It makes me nervous of you Monty owners that have posted that you see so much movement at the hitch that indicates this may have happened. So far so good for me, but I wouldn't wish this aggravation on anybody. Is this covered for life? With my infrequent use, it could be a long time before this happens and I can't afford any out-of-pocket expense like this. I don't know enough to fix it myself and it's too far to drive to Ozz's house.

I have my trailer at the dealer now being reinspected at Keystones request. Apparently they reconsidered what I was orginally told was acceptable deflection of the frame above the pin box.
Your not alone. Check the link below.
