Shipping door shim? - Montana Owners Club

The door on our 3000RK was sticking and a little hard to open. I had oiled it and it was some better.
When at CW they said they fixed it (without me asking them to)
There was a small plastic tapered piece at the outside bottom edge of the door that rubbed on the sill. They took it off and said it was there for shipping only. I couldn't believe they charged (warranty) $20.00 to take out the one screw.
Does anyone know about this tapered shipping thing? Do you still have one on your door? Is CW pulling my leg?

I had to grab a flashlight last nite and go outside to check our door. We have the little plastic gizmo on our door. So far it hasn't caused a problem but I do see on the threshold where it is rubbing. I don't know if it should be removed or not. Seems as if it could be of some value if the door got misaligned??

I removed ours as it was dragging quite a bit. The RV Tech at the dealership said that if it is dragging to much they remove them if there is problem they leave them but they are really only for shipping.

We removed ours for the same reason and after it was reported here. That was about two years ago and the door has worked fine ever since.

The door sticking was one of the problems that Keystone fixed for me at the fall rally. The culprit was the shipping tab and according to Daryl in the service center the dealer is supposed to remove it during their delivery prep. I think that is authoritative enough that you can safely remove the tab.

Ditto on our door. Couldn't figure it out. Adjusted the dad balmed striker, and everything else I could get my hands on. Finally, on dady, laying on the ground checking the steps I looked up and there was that little @$#&%* black piece of plastic. Removed it and no problems since.

Yep ours was the same way and Daryl at the Tech Center removed it. He said it is supposed to be removed by the dealer during their initial inspection. sounds like the dealers are slipping a "little"

I went for a almost a year trying to figure out why the door would stick. While at a dealer rally the tech was working on something else for me inside and while he was coming out he noticed the door and removed a plastic shipping shim. Problem fixed so I guess this is common thing they don't check or tell us about.

Thanks to this forum,I too went out found and removed the plastic wedge,now my door operates a lot smoother.
I would like to know the purpose for this plastic piece. Why do they need it for delivery yet we don't need for our travels? Inquiring minds want to know!

I too just removed the shim. We've always had trouble with the door being difficult to close. (We're probably known as "door slammers".) But, like you say, wonder why they put it in for delivery, and yet we travel many more miles than the delivery.

It was mounted on the underside of the door at the outside edge.
It looks like I am not the only one who had the sticky problem. It sure does work better now!

Just noticed this morning that there is also a shim on top of the door. Anyone removed that one? Looks just like the one on the bottom.

I removed ours for the same reason as everyone else, a couple of years ago. No problems since. But, can someone explain it's real purpose to me? If it's a shipping shim, then I fail to understand. Shipping of a fifthwheel consists of somebody towing it down the road, just like I do frequently. So why would this shipping shim be required to get the rig from factory to dealer and not needed for the many more thousands of miles it gets towed after that?

Will, careful about the door slamming. Awhile back, CountryGuy had a window fall down inside the door because the plastic posts it sits on gave out. They figured it was from all the door slamming.

Besides, door slammers don't make for good neighbors. It's far better for relationships to hold the handle open, close the door, release the handle. And windows stay in place better, too.
