Winter Texans.....what to pack?

We'll be leaving here (ND) in a couple of weeks or so and will end up in Mercedes, TX for the months of Jan. and Feb. I thought I would start gathering up some clothes in one spot so when we start loading the camper it would be easier. It looks like the average low is about 50 but what can we expect during the days (besides wind and rain)? Do I take some pull over sweatshirts? Mostly short-sleeved shirt and some light jackets? Do you wear many shorts during that time? I'd like to have the stuff I need along----would hate to have to do a lot of shopping !

We take winter coats and we take swim suits and we take everything in between. It can be 90 in February, and it can be 40 with rain and wind in February.

We never deviate from clothes, take a little of everything, be prepared

or, GO SHOP!!!

Thanks, Carol. I remember looking at some pictures of some of you guys at a get-to-gether around a campfire and it really looked like it was COLD. Some had blankets around their legs, etc. Then I see pictures with people in the swimming pools and think that those pics must be in the middle of summer (not necessarily so!). Some of each....gonna do that! Marilyn

Every place has winter, just some have MORE winter than others. Our experience (so far) has been that there are 4 to 12 days of winter in February, then it gets real nice and keeps getting better. In March I believe it was, the daily average temperature went up almost 1 degree every 3 days or so, something like 71 degrees at the beginning of March and close to 81 by the end of March.

Lots of people wear shorts almost all the time. Last year was quite warm, think I only wore long pants ohhhh, 10 days in 3 months??

Hope to see you at a MOC gathering while you are in the Valley! Usually the 3rd Thursday of the month, but not limited to that by any means.

We'll be keeping an eye on MOC for information where the gatherings will be. It'll be fun to meet everyone! Marilyn

Marilyn: If you have a 3 season coat, (with a zip out liner and outer shell), that is the one to take. Also take a couple of sweatshirts for the mornings in Jan. Remember that Texas is a state where you can have the heat on and the a/c on in the same day.

We've been in the RVG almost a week now and I can't imagine needing anything warmer than a sweatshirt, it's been WARM! But since I have no long time information, take that for what its worth...nada!
