heading from Texas to Tennessee

Planning to head from San Antonio to Cleveland, TN this fall to visit kids & grandson. We try to keep our driving to 4 hours +/- per day, and we never stay just one night anywhere. Looks like the most logical route would be IH10 to Lake Charles, then on to New Orleans (will stay a few nights there). Then on to Birmingham, then from there on to Cleveland. Any suggestions regarding routes to take or avoid, and campgrounds, would be appreciated. We always want full hookups. TIA.

There's a Birmingham South RV park in Pelham, AL. You can tell it's an old KOA, we usually overnight there returning from FL. Nothing special, but easy on/off interstate 65. You can get back on I65 north for just a few miles and get on I459 which takes you around the east side of Birmingham which is normally fairly light traffic. This will take you to I59 which goes north east through AL and a small corner of GA. This is a very lightly traveled interstate, and seemingly you mostly see semis, not so much cars. There are parts of this road that has a washboard finish and is fairly rough. I did notice some repaving going on when we went through last fall, hopefully they've made good progress.

I59 intersects with I24 a little south of Chattanooga actually in GA, this will take you to I75 north to Cleveland. This road is seemingly always busy through the interchange to several miles north of Chattanooga. We've overnighted at Chattanooga north KOA which is in McDonald, TN which I believe is just 1 exit from Cleveland. It's nothing special either, they do have a number of wooded sites. There's another KOA a little further north in Sweetwater, TN. It's a KOA Holiday which are supposed to be nicer. I've never stayed there and can't give an opinion.

Don't know your planned route, but if it includes passing through Indiana ... well ... DON'T. The Interstates are horrid. They'll beat your camper to death. If you do pass through Indiana, take US highways. They are a little slower, pass through towns and villages, but the roads are much kinder to the suspension on both your tow vehicle and your camper.

If he's in Indiana, he's seriously lost! Just sayin.
