(SOLUTION) help needed with slides!

I know someone has the answer I need. Made a major mistake today and had one battery hooked up backwards. Fried one battery, one is still good, everything in the rig is working. Generator starts fine, but no slides work. Big sticker next to switch says battery hookup required for slideout operation, so it has to be battery related. Any ideas?? Hat to leave slides out at mini-storage so I am stuck here until I have no choice. Help!

Any possibility it is the reverse polarity fuses in the converter...

Anything is a possibility, but everything is working in the rig that is DC powered. All lights, etc. Seems like the reverse polarity fuses (I assume those are the four 25 amp ones apart from everything else) would prevent everything battery related from working?

Everything is working except for the slides. The generator even starts. I am wondering if it is possible to completely fry the autoreset breaker. The one on the right showed evidence of a burnt connection and I am wondering if that on is dedicated to the slides?

It is a possibility that it needs both batteries? and possibly the remaining battery is not 100% this is a really heavy amp draw, even with things working, it may need more oomph??

I would at least try to plug in the truck running and see if it helps. Oz is right if the batteries aren't 100% it affects the slides. If all else fails you can hand crank them in so you can at least head home to do battle another day. Sometimes it helps to walk away and come back with a clear head.

I would think with the generator running, that a low battery would not be a factor, but I do not know. I found the instructions for retracting the electric and hydraulic slides manually, so I guess I will try that tomorrow and try to replace the auto-reset breaker and see if that works.
I do believe I did completely fry one battery. When I engaged the switch, the fireworks started when I passed over both (battery 1, battery 2, off and both are on the switch). The hot was grounded through the screw post on the second battery, so I am thinking that 24V went to the auto-reset breaker, which resulted in it being fried? It is puzzling that everything works except the slides?

Good luck, I know it must be frustrating. If I had jumper cables, I would at least try jumping the truck to the remaining battery. The generator would not be the same.

You can verify if the breaker is bad by having someone hold the slide "IN" button while you put a jumper across the two terminals on the breaker. You can use a heavy piece of wire or the shank of a screwdriver. Just take care not to touch anything else. If the slides start to move, the breaker is toast. I do not recommend you try to operate the slides this way!! This is for test purposes only!

Bingo, time for a new Monty.......Oh, wait it is a new Monty. Anyway, if you weren't operating the slides with the backwards battery doesn't seem if it would have done any damage. Another thing you could try similar to Tom's suggestion, would be to hook up jumper cables from your TV directly to the hydraulic pump motor to see if it will run. Hopefully you did Fry something in the Level-up System that is now preventing the pump from running, so does the Level-up system work?

I agree wih Ozz. When I have my batteries removed from the camper and I want to run the slides in/out, I just hook up the RV wires that normally connect to the RV battery to jumper cables and then connect those to the truck battery. Works just fine!

Whether you use the remote or not you need power to the remote receiver, I would check that as well, there should be some in line fuses to the receiver. Problem might be there since you indicate all other 12V is working. Also turn off the 2 main breakers and see if you still have 12V to the inside lights, that will take the converter out of the equation and will tell you if you actually have 12V connection to the converter through the 2 Circuit breakers. I think the right one first then a jumper to the left one and then on to the cut out switch and converter etc...

The power wire to the hydraulic pump should be off the circuit breaker on the right.

Went back to the mini-storage and used the truck for a jump and still no movement. I did think about a jumper wire from one side of the breaker to the other and will try that tomorrow, or just trace the right side wires to make sure they go to the hydraulic and electric slide controls. I guess the one factor that I realized after thinking all this through, is that the slides were not working before I did the no-no with the battery switch. That is why I was switching batteries, to see if the other one would work the slides. I am still leaning strongly towards the auto-reset breaker, but I never thought about making sure the control boards have power? I have a couple of weeks to get this figured out (no better way to learn about the capabilities and safety systems of a new rig I don't guess). Hopefully will get it resolved by this weekend so I can breather easy about our planned Thanksgiving trip.

Good luck, this type of thing will ruin sleep until it's fixed.

Never even thought about checking the level-up system, guess I will add that to the list for tomorrow as well.

Bingo, look real close at your auto reset breakers. Some of them have a small button reset on them and they are hard to see. Use a test light instead of a jumper to trace the 12v in case something else is wrong. Need some help just holler.

I had to have the double throw relay replaced while we were in Goshen, mine wouldn't come in either

Is that the one on the right side above the battery in the battery compartment? That is where my suspicions lie at present!
