Turbo POW!! - UPDATE
Left Mor/Ryde about 11 am, got about 6 miles and heard a big POW!! Thought it was a tire, but turned out to be the a clamp on the boot (hose) on the turbo. Limped off US 20 to Zeigler Ford in Elkhart & they replaced all clamps and the boot. Got ...another 16 miles down the road and POW!!! It blew off again. Limped back to Elkhart CG and took the truck back to Zeigler. We may have a stuck turbo. Will find out tomorrow.
UPDATE - Got the truck back this morning. Apparently all it needed was a new clamp. The mechanic either torqued it too much or not enough. We drove it hard on and off the freeway to try and "break" it. We hook up and leave for Chicago tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed. I told Bob the universe was giving us a quiet day off between the rally, Mor/Ryde and the high energy grandkids!

OOOWCH! Hope it`s a quick easy fix for you to get back on the road. Thank goodness you were near a dealer.

I'm glad you were able to get off the road safely and into a camp site. Good luck with your turbo problem.

Bob-n-Pam, that happened to me this past summer. I was fortunate to be close to a diesel repair shop near Renfro Valley, KY. I had never met these people but if I had a major event I would trust them for the repairs in a heart beat.
It blew out on me on the interstate and we crept to the campground at Renfro Valley. It sounded a little like a shot-gun blast and it even slightly dented the inside of the hood where it hit when it came loose. The campground host suggested to me to contact a certain garage and I did, I explained the problem and they said to bring it to them if I could. They were only about 6 miles down the road from the campground. I was able to hobble to their shop and it was the clamp on the turbo hose that had came off.
Now, what makes this interesting is that they informed me that the clamps they were told were the right ones wouldn’t tighten down enough to secure the hose properly even though it was what was called for to fit the truck. It still wasn’t tight enough for the kind of pressure the turbo had to deal with and would still slip around some after it was as tight as it would go. I hope this makes sense! What they did to fix our truck was place a clamp on it that was intended for a tractor trailer truck. They also replaced a small piece of the turbo pipe or hose. They did all of that and had me ready to go in about and hour or two. I haven’t had any problems since. You might check with whoever worked on yours about how well the clamp they placed back on there actually fits and suggest to them to look further into a proper fitting clamp even if it was a Ford dealer.
I hope you get it fixed and everything works out ok. Let us know!

Ahhh, yes had this happen too. My situation was this;
Noted when under hood doing service that little blue 45 deg elbow on turbo outlet to intercooler was black.
Googled and comments were that its likely cracking on side not visible...removed and sure enough slightly cracked.
**Read about the "Bang" that can happen and that boost pressure is like 35 psi...hmmm
Replaced with new one...noted label which says "do not over tighten"...hmmm used screw driver handle snugged not completely compressing springs.
Off we went on 1st RV trip post replacement, climbing long grade west bound I84..."BANG"!
Pulled on shoulder, popped hood, lucky to find clamp laying on manifold...big sigh!
Put on clamp, same screw driver handle but big adrenalin rush and tightened so no gaps in springs (did other side too!).
Been hesitant about mashing accelerator...but we are good just need to trust my work.

That clamp loosened up on my old Ford too lost my boost too, Banks said that those are the clamps the use an have nothing better. Here are a few pictures showing the leak where it blows out so look at your intercooler hoses regularly.

Bob n Pam,
Glad things worked out ok. Bad thing to happen after the good meal at the Mexican Resturant the night before. Rosetta and I enjoyed spending a little more time with you after the rally.

Glad to hear you ended up okay. The rally was exciting enough, without adding drama after it. Have safe travels.

Thanks, MuddyPaws. We have a 2005 6.0. We had another failure today, which I posted on a new thread.

I guess the hoses you all were talking about were the big 3" pipes. but thise little ones are one to remember also when you loose your boost.
