It sure comes in handy! If you get down a road that has no "dead end" sign it will keep you from breaking your rear window. LOL Ask me how I know?

I was at June Lake, Ca. looking for our rv campground. Went pasted it and then looked for a place to turn around. Found either a state or fed campground and turned in. Turned out to only have about 10-12 sites with a dead end. There was a wide area at the end probably about 50 feet across. With my slider I was barely able to make a U turn with probably less than 2 feet to spare.
I have made U turns on a really wide 4 lane (not busy) before also. I think they are very useful, but also (at least the Superglide) expensive compared to a regular hitch. Although, I guess you can get a 'manual' slider, but run the chance of forgetting to slide it when in a tight space.

G rated tires show a 56 mph max speed in the charts I’ve seen. Why wouldn’t you want a higher speed rated tire?

Check Sailun or Carlisle tires. They have higher speed ratings. Never had an issue at 65 mph.

The speed rating listed for Sailun G (weight) rated 14 ply tires is “L”, which is max speed of 75 mph.
Carlisle G rated tire has a listed “M” speed rating which is 81 mph. I think you are looking at the weight rating of G 14 ply tires vs the speed rating for the tire. You need to look up the speed rating for the specific brand of G weight rated tire you are interested in. The G 14 ply is the WEIGHT rating. The speed rating is a different letter and varies depending on the manufacturer. All of the G weight rated 14 ply tires I have checked are either speed rated “L” or “M”. Hope this helps! Happy trails.

I have an '11 3455SA pulling it with an '06 F350 SRW short bed. I installed a slider hitch, but I have not had to extend it once yet. I have had this setup for about 5 months and have been to a dozen campsites.

Funny story. Our first trip out in the Monty. The campgrounds policy is first come first serve. We're driving around looking at spots, found one that we liked only to hear that someone is already claimed it. He couldn't back in on his first try so he was making another trip around the campground to attempt again. We ran into him on the far side of the grounds and asked him if he was taking that spot. Shaking and visibly distraught he said "NO I broke my rear window and damaged the trailer cap! I'm out of here" We took his spot.
My auto slide gives me piece of mind, I never think twice. It also allows me to leave my front lumber rack on year round. I agree that I'd use a manual slide less. It all boils down to your ability and level of confidence.

My biggest fear when moving to a 5th wheel from a travel trailer was that I would drop the trailer on my truck bed, accidentally of course.
Our first trip out with the new Montana, my wife and I were at Crooked River State Park about an hour from home. We were watching TV in the den when I heard a loud crash. I turned to her and said "Hope that wasn't what I think it was".
Well, it was. A neighboring camper had decided to pull forward at the behest of the wife "after" having released the hitch. Dropped his brand new 5th wheel on his brand new truck bed.
That was over 6 years ago, and I still haven't done it yet. But I'm always vigilant.

I've done it. Surprisingly NO damage.
I also forgot to open the tailgate once..... again no damage as I stopped just in time.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was confusing the two ratings. I normally pull at 65-70 and was concerned I was over speeding my Sailuns.
