Inverters
Has anyone know anything about Power Jack 1500watt pure sine wave inverters. I will use this on a CPAP machine in the Montana during power outages and dry camping.
Thanks for any info
Don

Don, I use a CPAP machine also and it only draws 1.7 amps, not sure what the conversion to watts is, but I would think that a 1500 watt inverter would be overkill. Perhaps someone with elec knowledge could work this out. BTW, I try and tough if out without mine. For Example, when at Quartzsite last year I went without for about 9 days. Rough, but I made it. A batt hookup might be cheaper and less obtrusive(maybe with a solar charger on during the day). These are just my opinions and may not even be viable, just something to think about....

Seems like, maybe so, could be, volts x amps = watts

One of those little 400 watt inverters would work just fine. We have one in our truck which we plug into the cigarette lighter to provide power for my wife's laptop with GPS when traveling.

We use a CPAP machine. We have one of the smaller inverters that just plugs into a 12 volt receptacle. We have a two battery setup in the rig. The inverter is not a pure sine wave. We have used this setup for 5 years plus with no problems. The draw on the batteries is so low that we've never had the batteries run low. We do charge them up every day for at least couple of hours with the Honda 2000.
Good luck.

I use a CPAP and I have a 12 VDC adapter for it. I think it was about $75. That way you don't need an inverter. FWIW.

Where do you plug your adapter in in the 5th wheel.

I also spend my nights hooked to the machine. When we dry camp I use a cheap converter I bought at pep boys. I plug it into the truck and run an extension cord through the window. We tend to use the truck most every day so don't have a problem with low batteries. The wife is used to the "white noise" and can't sleep good with out it running either.

If I may make a suggestion, it appears that the input voltage on these CPAP machines must be at or around 12 volts DC (based on the posts I have read). So, look at the machine and on the label, it will state what input voltage it requires. If it is DC voltage, Radio Shack can suppy the necessary parts for next to nothing.

Apparently your rig isn't like ours. Our TV preamplifier is in the bedroom and it includes a 12-volt plug receptacle. This allows us to plug any 12-volt accessory into it.

I tried one of my machines in that plug and it wouldn't work. We are going to do a bit of dry camping when we go rockhounding also but the main uses will be the CPAP.
