exterior running lights

Has anyone tried to wire their exterior running lights so they could be on (powered by the 5th wheel battery)when not connected to the truck? It might be nice ocassionally when in a campground in the evening. It seems like it wouldn't be too difficult if you could find a convient place to access the wiring.
