2013 Mid-Atlantic Rally activities

I know it's a bit early to start planning activities but I don't care, I'm doing it anyway. Truth be told, I've been holding off for a couple of months.
There is a zipline tour in Westfield, NC that lasts for 2 hours and sounds like fun. It's $80.00 a person but we might be able to get a group rate. Vickie and I were going to do this the last time we were there but got rained out.
We can also arrange a golf day for those interested. Cross Creek Country Club in Mt. Airy looks like a nice course.
There are a lot of other things to see and do in the area. Pilot Mountain, the Andy Griffith Museum, the county museum, the worlds largest open pit granite mine that can be seen from the space station, etc.
As we get a show of interest for an activity, we'll plan an outing.
Jim
UPDATE
Let's start planning activities. We need volunteer co-ordinators for the meet and greet, the pot luck dinner, we need someone with computer skills to take on the task of making the name tags, a show of interest in a golf outing and suggestions for anything else. Bingo and Cathy have volunteered to have a movie night so ideas on what to show are welcomed. After we get co-ordinators, we need volunteers to help them.
There will be $25.00 per rig rally charge to cover expenses and paper goods for our gatherings, etc. Any money left over will be donated to the MOC. The fee will be collected at the rally.

Jim,
Depending on Cathy's work schedule, we may have to leave a day early. Wanted to let you know in advance in the event you want to have the movie night on the schedule.

Jim there will be no way to please everyone or have a timeline that will please all. You guys are doing the planning and are familiar with the area and the available activities. I would say just go ahead and plan activities that you think would be interseting. If you guys think they would be interseting many others would also.We can choose what you offer. Example 160.00 for a tour for a couple would not be something we would be willing to do but many others may.

Rich,
We will set some sort of schedule but I was giving everyone a chance to have input if they know of something in the area that might be of interest. Many things don't need to be organized for the whole group and individual couples can get together for an activity. We will be keeping the schedule pretty open except things like a golf outing that needs to be more structured.

Bingo,
When you get there, they will give you a visitors guide. We have toured downtown and the museums and really enjoyed our visit. Pilot Mountain is another cool thing to see. The owner of the campground is the great grandson of one of the original siamese twins, Eng and Chang Bunker. Their house is on the property and he will show it to us if we ask him. That is why we thought this would be a good location for a rally.

There is a place about 40 miles west named Shatley Springs. It is small but has a wonderful restaurant that serves "family style". All southern mountain qui sine. www.shatleysprings.com. Some distance but worth the drive. If any are interested.

Larry,
I am starting to form the opinion that you are the MOC guru on restaurant's in just about every part of the eastern seaboard. Seems like every place that is mentioned north of Cuba and south of Canada you have an eatin' recommendation!! Don't get me wrong, good eatin' places are vital knowledge for a rally!!

Bingo, you're still young. Soon, when kids are gone and S/S comes on line, your priorities will change. Am I right, seniors?LOL

Bingo,
When you don't have to include Chuckie Cheese in your search any longer, your horizons will broaden.

Hey, I will have you know that Cathy really likes Chucky Cheese!! Unfortunately it is not the food that attracts her, it is the games! Who am I to argue?? Speaking of food, with over 25 rigs (hopefully), I am already salivating over the pot luck!!

Shatley Springs is good, and in Boone is the Daniel Boone Inn, which is also family style and about the same time to get there - 1-1/2 hours.
