Tacoma narrows Bridge

We will be traveling from Tacoma WA, to Port Angeles Wa. I was told to take the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and the Hood Canal Floating Bridge. This route will save me 50 miles.

Can anyone tell me about these floating bridges when pulling a 5th wheel....

Thank you

Bryan and Judy, not much to tell except they are very big bridges. Both are 2 lane both ways and handle hundred of big rigs every day. You should not have any problem except don't try the Tacoma bridge during rush hour and I would check with the Washington State DOT as they are working on the Hood Canal bridge and I heard it was going to be shut down for some time.

If you decide to go the other way it is a lot slower and most of it is just 2 lanes. It's been a few years since we have gone the long way but it is very pretty but narrow drive.

Have a safe trip...

Hi there Bryan and Judy,

The Narrows bridge is getting ready for the big opening of the second bridge ( July 15th I think) and there are some lane restrictions on the old side. Check out http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/projects/sr16narrowsbridge/
Looks like they are closing some lanes to put up the toll booth signs.

Hood Canal is fine for use.You can get some lengthy delays as the bridge opens when they have a sub coming in our out of Bangor sub base(in the old days pre 9/11 you could sit on that bridge and see a Sub go past your nose no further than 50 feet away, now they block the complete span of the bridge) It is two lane both sides and as you come off the bridge going toward the Olympic peninsula side watch the right hand lane as there is a turn about 100 yards up a fairly steep hill. This turn is absolutely notorious for wrecks as folks get impatient. In five years of driving the route from Port Angeles to Bothell I saw many a wreck there. once past the turn head straight up the hill (stick to the right as cars will want to fly by at 80+) and head up the hill.

There ya go ..T town bridge and Hood canal at a glance.
