no 12 volt

in the large slide out. Fuse is blown. There are 3 lights on that circut. Disconnected all light fixtures still have a short. Cut wires under frame where they go to the slide out. Have 14 volts at that point. How does one find that short in those walls?

I should read more carefully, mis read post and had to backtrack.
Where the wires flex would be suspect at the slide. You may be able to pull new wire to the first fixture using the old wire as a pulling wire.
Good luck,
Ozz

Ozz is right. When we have a shorted line in the jet we run a new line instead of looking for a short in over 160 feet of fuselge!!! As a rule, static wiring does not go bad so look for areas where the line may chaff against a chassis ground like the flex joint of the slide or where you have done maintenance and accidentally drilled into the line, etc.

There's one truth in maintenance - if something worked before you did maintenance and now it does not, look for the fault in the area you worked. We call it "Go where the monkey was last." So think back to the last project of time you knew the lights to be working and go from there.

Harbor Freight and other auto hardware stores have a "Short Finder" tool. I'll bet that might work for you. I have a friend that has one and he says it works great.

When we first got the rig, we had an AC short under the slide where the wire bent at 90 degrees left, then up to go up into the slide. DC wiring goes through the same area. Too much tension on the spring which holds the wires taut and out of the way during slide retraction.

Yesterday I was sitting there eating lunch and the washer was running. During spin cycle I just happened to look up and the back speaker over the table. A crazy thought went through my head. About a year 1/2 ago I put in new better speakers. New screws to hold the new speaker holders. The washer is only 3 months installed. That speaker was MOVING way to much. Sure enough that shaking had caused one of the screws to rub on a wire. SHORT. All is well now.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Dick - GOOD FIND! That's an investigative mind at work!

That sounds a whole lot better than the dreaded "screw through the wire in the wall" I was thinking.

That is great and it sounds like Steve was right when he said " Go where the monkey was last"
