Utah & Idaho

We are planning our Spring 2019 Travel. We have never been to Utah or Idaho (driving). Where do you suggest we go and what should we see?

We enjoy trains, hiking, fishing, different cultures, history, etc...

Thanks.

you could spend a month just in Utah. they have a great website and will send you info about all the things to do there for free. Just got back from Moab trip and saw Canyonlands and Arches NP on the east side. Other NP's on the west side are great for we've been there before several times.

Idaho, Sawtooth area and north through to the Salmon River up to the North Fork area. Then over the mountain to Montana. Did that trip but came down last year from our trip across Canada.

Some things not to miss in Utah:

Bryce Canyon

Arches National Park

Zion National Park

If you can get to Page, AZ, check out Antelope Canyon, both Upper and Lower. Bucket list!

Don't miss Utah's Dead Horse Point State Park while near Moab. Might want to check out the newly updated campgrounds in the state park.

It is "Garden of the Gods" in Colorado Springs.

We like to stay in the Island Park area of Idaho. It is close enough for drive in to Yellowstone. Two places: Henrys Lake State Park and Red Rock RV Park. Both are fine, but we prefer the state park.

Utah has at least 2 National parks and 2 National Monuments. BUT it is HOT in southern Utah in the summer. How hot, you ask? I would say 105-110 is not unusual during June/July. If you can leave early get there in May.
Also, right across the border (literally) into AZ is Monument Valley where the Searchers and Stagecoach was filmed.

Oh, another thing. Visit McCall Idaho - about 80 miles north of Boise. It is a tourist town with lots of places to eat. Some restaurants overlook the lake with sand beaches and volleyball while across the water are mountains with snow covered peaks in July!!! There is a (almost) 10-10-10 rated rv park, but get in a reservation by January if you want to stay in July.
And if you haven't already found it - use rpparkreviews.com. It is my bible. Good Sam club also has reviews but I think it may be biased towards Good Sam member parks. You have to kind of weed out really bad reviews from people that have a bad experience because the person checking in was rude or such. The very next review may say they were lovely people!!

Thanks everyone that replied. We are taking notes and will use your guidance. We will be heading that way in March 2019 and the hot weather does not bother either of us - we lived in Yuma, AZ for 2 years and enjoyed the desert.

Southern Utah, probably our favorite destination. Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce, Zion, Cedar Breaks National Monument and Capitol Reef are all worthy of many days of your time. They are not only scenic, but often have interest historical significance too. While it is often hot, the thunder and hail was something we did not expect. One year it did some damage (thankfully not too visible) to our truck hood. Be warned!

I mistyped on earlier post. The website is campgroundreviews.com not rpparkreviews.com

Nice areas in Idaho I have visited are Coeur d' Alene. I can recommend the Blackwell Island RV park there. Beautiful area with lakes. Also the Hayden Lake area and McCall Idaho. In McCall, I would recommend the McCall RV Resort. Great area. There is fishing and any other outdoor adventures you want in these areas.
In Utah The National Parks are grea. I stayed in Moab and visited Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Lots to see in both states. Enjoy.

Walcott state park and three island crossing state park are great rv sites available through reserve America .com. Both are just off I84. Walcott is outside of Rupert and three island is located in Glenn's Ferry ( an old railroad town) Depends what time of year for the falls at Twin.Spring will have the most amazing water, later the summer the farmers divert most of it. Twin Falls is only40miles from jackpot Nevada( they have a nice rv park to) and Twin is where evil kneivel tried to jump the canyon.Have wonderful time your trip

Golden Spike National Historic Site in northern Utah. 2 working replicas of The Jupiter and 119.
Utah Railroad Museum In Ogden Ut. Also Browning Firearm Museum, Kimball Classic cars.

If you get to the Valley of the Gods Check out the Moki Dugway, located on UT-261 as it is very close to VOG. A drive you will not forget.
Bluff, Ut. has Anasazi Indian Ruins.
I came to Utah to visit and never left. That was 37 years ago and have not seen it all.

Have a great time as it sounds like a fun trip.

I second the recommendation by Twindman to visit Monument Valley. We did that on our first RV trip post-retirement, almost three years ago. I had not heard of it until my father recommended it. So glad we made that trip. Also, take a full day back country tour offered by the Navajo guides. If you don't, you will miss most of the attraction!

Just remembered something. There is a movie on amazon prime called Idaho.
Has a lot of good info on sights to see.
We also watch Aerial America about states we're going to visit to help with the itinerary.

Anchor in or at Duck Lake. Visit the whole state & surrounding states from 4 corners area. It's on my 3rd bucket list again.
