Unhappy At Wits End With A Chevy 2500HD Diesel Tow Vehicle

Am I the only one that has tow vehicle problems or is it common to RVing? We started a trip this summer from New York to California, Oregon, and Colorado. Made it to Des Moines, IA. when the tow vehicle, a well maintained 2008 Chevy 2500HD, died ($12,000 to repair) & 5 days delay. Traded it for a low mileage 2011 Chevy 2500HD instead of repairing. Got to Portland Oregon and got a "Check Engine" light on the new truck- issue covered under warranty & 1 day delay. Just got another "Check Engine" light yesterday- $1800 to repair. I'm at home so no delay but if I was on the road it would be a 3 day delay. 5th wheel weighs in at 10,600 so its not near the towing weight limit. Looking at downsizing and going back to a gas engine.
