Looking to full time RV in a Montana!

My wife and I are looking to sell our home and buy a Montana 3911FB. We have been researching but can't find a good answer as to which truck to buy to pull 16,000 pounds plus.
Any suggestions from current owners?

One ton diesel dually, your manufacturer of choice. We have always had Fords, long beds, 4x4.

Agreed all the Big 3 make fine trucks. We also like our Fords. No major recalls and no problems with either of my rigs.

They're all good. I'm brand loyal, but have to admit, the competition looks good! Like Mike said, diesel dually for that weight range. Congratulations on your decision to full-time, that's my dream. And welcome to the MOC.

Another diesel Dually recommendation. Any brand will do. Pay close attention to gear ratios and impact to tow rating particularly on the few years old plus models. Lots of info can be found in the Trailer Life towing guides.

If you want to be able to haul more stuff or more animals, get the Dodge Maxi Cab.

Pulled our 3900FB with a '14 RAM 2500. The pin weight was barely under the cargo capacity for that truck and it pulled it great. We had to go to the dually when we bought the Big Sky. I happen to love the dually, because I have driven them since '96 - Hubby didn't want it, but has gotten used to it. I love the extra stability and knowing we have plenty of cargo capacity for whatever we want to pull.

One ton dually for sure....I believe you will love the 6.7 Ford F350...love our 2015...we have the 373 rear....even though it is still new we have been avg 11.7 mpg cruising around 62mph on interstates...that about 1.7 mpg more than my 08 F350 averaged....the truck has almost unlimited power and great tow command system and engine brake...we love it...

If you buy a new truck go look at all 3 drive them all several times. They are all great trucks you can't go wrong. Study the specs then get the best one for you. It does not matter what someone else likes, thinks it's yo money.

Wasn't really sold on our Duramax Allison combination when we traded but fell in love with it after I learned to let this combo do the job- Added all the goodies to increase performance and haven't looked back after 5 plus years of fulltiming- JMHO- Don

If you are looking New then ANY brand 1 ton will work especially Dually if you are talking mid 2000's years my choice would be Chevy/GMC Duramax/Allison combo it has been the most reliable IMO in those years

When we started looking in 2006 we took the Montana brochure to a dealership that had a large business in light trucks. We were told that a 3/4 ton would pull it, but the weight would be at the top of the range and we would definitely bog down on serious hills. The one ton was definite overkill, but would do whatever we asked it while hauling.

Remember the Fords are heavier than the other two brands.

Really, I have a 1999 F-450, had it since day one...no problems. Would you enlighten me as to the "problems" you are referring to so I can be prepared?

Thanks.

Go to ANY Ford Forum and read all about the problems with the 6.0 Powersrtoke and lesser extent the 6.4, too many issues to go into here but in a nutshell Sand was left over in the casting of the Block and Clogged Everything, some people had good luck with them or Got them remedied thru aftermarket fixes and when they do they are great Motors But ALOT of others did not, they scared me Enough to turn from a hard core Ford guy and turn trader and go Duramax/Allison and glad I did,Ford Did Finally get tired of it and went "in House" and built the great 6.7 in 2011
