Update: no joy, new valve had same issue. I can't blow air thru old or new valve (suggested by LCI) so they should not allow the fluid to bypass. Tried new valve w/o the coil on and still fluid passed (rules out electrical). LCI seems perplexed. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Don't really want to win at "stump the band" here...
