New awning, original shredded on top
The UV rays have ruined our 2007 awning, looks like a bunch of hungry Crows have pecked the top of it and shredded it.
I see that the awning mfg's are pushing 'Alumiguard' covers. Makes one wonder why it wasn't offered..(maybe it was?) as an option.
I will get it now, Sue and I replaced one on our Keystone Sprinter trailer, I 'bonked' her noggin with one end, took her to her knees when we changed that one out. I felt horrible, but.. we got it changed.
Will be more careful with this one.
Am ordering a new awning from someone.. haven't found the supplier yet.
Any one done this?

On our last trailer, our awning deteriorated on the top like yours, the portion that's exposed to the sun when rolled up. We used Eternabond tape over the exposed area, I think it was a 4" or 6" wide roll. We put it on the underside as well (same part of the awning), which sandwiched the awning material with Etrnabond. I thought it would make a nice temporary fix until we replaced the awning but it worked so well we just left it as is. Had 5 years on it when the trailer burned. It was starting to slightly discolor but it wasn't peeling at all. We'll probably do the same with our Montana this spring just as a preventative measure.

mobil thanks for the tip, I will unroll it and check the overall condition. I am working now and can afford to replace the awning much more comfortably than when we retire again, so I should change it out.
4 winters on South padre Island was incredibly hard on the Montana, but I am glad we did it. Happy times there.

My 2003 is starting to delaminate also. I am trying the repair tape and will see what happens. I hope to have the same luck as MOBIL. I agree 100% Ozz. Out on the islands is extremely hard on our units. It is a never ending wash, wax, spray, oil, and paint. Let's not forget replacing the cabinet hold-open devices as the springs disintegrate right before your eyes.
PS: FYI, I winter on Mustang Island/Port Aransas for one to two months for the last 4 years and have had the Monty down there every year for at least 10 days since 2003.

Are the alumigard covers something that can be added or do they come with replacement awnings? I googled them and couldnt find them.Maybe I spelled it wrong.

Last year our awning was so bad with little holes in it and pealing all over we had it replaced at a cost of $500.00 then while in OK the wind got the Kitchen slide awning and had it replaced at the cost of 200.00... These was something that we could not do our self's At least they are good to go for a few more years..LOL..

Thanks for the link Ozz. It looks like I need to wait until my awnings wear out to get alumigard covers.I was thinking they were a cover that went over the awnings when the slides were in to keep them dry. Mine are in quite a bit and they get black streaks on them from not drying out.

I have A friend who made a cover out of white sewer pipe from Lowes. It works great and is very cheap. He used a hack saw to cut it down the middle. It fit perfect.
