Temecula, CA

Midway between San Diego and Palm Springs and very convenient to I-15 sits the Pachanga Casino RV Resort in Temecula. If you're thinking of visiting the area for a day, a week or for the winter, I couldn't recommend it more highly. Very clean large sites with all the amenities we've come to expect from an "RV Resort". It sits adjacent to the largest casino in California yet it's quiet which is a must for us. No freeway noise; no casino noise ... just peace and quiet while minutes from everything.

I will second Moutard2's recommendation regarding the Pachanga Casino RV Park. It is a very nice CG. We did not stay there since we were staying at the Escapee's park just a few miles east of the Casino. But we did drive through and check things out. They have good security too.

If you're in that area consider it as a place to stay. Also if you're SKP members you should consider the Escapee's park.

We have been going there for years now the food isnt too bad for the price, you are also close to all the wineries about 3 miles from there go up to Hwy 79 turn right then to butterfield stage rd turn left to rancho california rd turn right and all the wineries start from ther up the road. have fun

We live about 6.5 miles away in the next town up, Murrieta. We have not stayed at the RV park but it gets high ratings from most places who rate that kind of stuff. We do go to the casino a couple of times a year cuz relatives and friends stop by the house and want to either visit the wineries or the casino.

Pechanga Casino is a decent size Casino and there is actually another one, Pala, down the skinny, windy road about 10 miles due south from Pechanga if you want some casino variety, but I think Pechanga is the better one. They both have good entertainment often enough. We saw Steely Dan at Pala last year and they both have a good variety of shows, but they do sell out quick.

Trailer Trash 2 mentions wineries. South Coast winery which is nearby the Casino won "Wine of the Year" a year or so ago, so the wineries are nothing to slouch at. There are 21 wineries in the area. We have a half dozen favorites we go to. It's no Napa or Sonoma, but the wineries are up and coming and very close to each other. There are limo or bus tours for those who like to taste the wine a lot and with the proximity of the wineries you can get toasted pretty quick. Seasonally there are also hot air balloon rides.

For a lot less money you can stay at Lake Skinner. We've been going to this facility for years. It is the type of campground we like, no concrete. Also it is PA Sun-Thurs and you can combine for a 14 day stay. We hear there is great fishing on the lake. Nice size sites and you can still visit the wineries.

That's actually a good alternative. I have been to Lake Skinner several times, but usually in late Fall, Winter or early spring. Went there in early September only one time and the 110 degrees tells me not to do that ever again. The park is quite open and the trees mostly sparse, but even without a discount the park is very inexpensive for full hookups. A bargain if you go the right time of year and want to venture around the area.

The lake is a water supply so you aren't allowed to swim in it and only certain types of motors are allowed. Fishing is very popular there. It's 10 miles northeast from my stickhouse but close to the east end of the wineries. The Pechanga Casino would be on the other side of the winery areas to the southwest of Lake Skinner.

This is a neat little campground that's just east of Temecula and only about 15 minutes to Pechanga. We spend Thanksgiving there every year and than move over to Pechanga for a few days.

A hardy yes on Skinner, we love that place better than the casino, also its only 29.00 per day except when they do the hot air balloons, then it becomes almost a heart attack amount. and it takes forever to get into the park because of the vehicle line going from the gate to the main hwy.
