tire chains / cables

Hi
I think i’ve been posting in the wrong spot. Anyway, my issue is I am going to be traveling through Oregon which requires one to carry chains. I have a Chevy 2500 diesel truck. The manual states that for the tires I’m running I shouldn’t use chains for issues of clearance with the brake lines. I called the Chevy dealership and they recommend cables. I am not planning on pulling my trailer in the snow. Have any of you all had experiences using cables on your trucks. Thank you

Unless this trip is life and death mandated, you might be wise to avoid putting yourself in a life and death situation and stay away from snow covered roads in Oregon or anywhere else. Not only would you need chains or cables for the truck, you likely will be required to have at least one axle on the trailer chained up. Just not worth risking damage to your truck and trailer in addition to your bodies.

The OP said they were NOT going to pull a trailer. Cable chains work well and are adequate for snow conditions. If you have 4WD, then carrying chains is required, but you don't have to install them. 4WD is good enough. If it gets to the point where 4WD isn't enough, then I would park and wait rather than installing cable chains (or real chains)!

I carry some 2x4 just in case I get stuck

Use short 2x4. DO NOT OVER STEER.
You will rip out your wheel wells.

Between the two, I'd use chains vs. cables.

You may want to check your owners manual about chains vs cables. In the Chevy manual, depending on tire size, cables are recommended.

Send a message via MSN to jsmitfl
If you buy your cables or chains from les Schwab they will buy them back from you as long as they are not opened.
