Backed Up Kitchen Sink Not Draining Thru Gray Tank
HI Forum,
We’ve had our new-to-us 2005 Montana 3400RL for 16 days now and we are just now experiencing a plumbing issue. Before we call GS, I thought I’d ask the forum…
Our kitchen sinks are not draining, but our bedroom sink and shower are fine. We’ve been very careful not to put anything down the kitchen sink except soapy water for the most part. Even our dishes and pans we’ve been using paper towels to remove almost all the gunk before washing.
The Dealership gave us a bottle of Pure Power Blue Waste Digester and Odor Eliminator of which we poured in the whole thing and in the morning, the pool in the sink was no longer there, but the water was still full in the pipes.
We got a plunger and tried muscling it out to no avail.
We read that dumping boiling hot water down the drain had worked for some people. Unfortunately, not for us.
Inspecting below the coach, we see a post dripping but are not sure if that correlates with our issue.
We tried a small snake but it would not go very far.
We also removed the P-Trap and there was no clog there.
Is there something obvious here that we are missing, or a small procedure we just need to do?
I’d hate to have an expensive plumber show up for a 5 minute job if we could have done it ourselves.
Thanks,
Brett

There is a separate handle to drain the kitchen sink tank. It is on the drivers side between the tires, look up there and you will see it.
No plumbing issue, just pull the handle. Quite a few people don't know about that.

Not sure about your year, but on the newer Montana's the kitchen has it's own grey tank. The drain handle isn't in the convenience center, but rather in the frame near the curb side tires. On my rig it's just in front of the first tire.

Wow, this is best Forum anywhere.
Total success on finding the 2nd gray tank and emptying it.
On our tank gage we saw the word "Galley" that was listed as full and my wife asked about it and they said the gage was broken, undependable, and we had to accept it as-is. My wife also read that some models have the 2nd gray tank but the dealership said there was only one on the walkthrough.
The dealer said all the tanks were empty. They just did not know. They sold this 5th wheel to our previous owners who traded it on on a "Grand Design". I'm very surprised they did not know.
Now we know.
Thank you all. We will pay it forward.
All the best,
Brett+Cheri

Brett and Cheri-- If this was not a Montana dealership, they more than likely did not know about the second gray tank or the second handle to empty that tank. In fact, there a few Montana dealerships that don't know about the second handle either. If you do a search on here bought that handle or backed up Galley tank you'll see just how many times it is brought up. Good luck with the Monte and keep reading the Forum and you'll find it to be the best site on the www.

Hmmmmm that's no excuse. A second tank for the galley is fairly common any more. Any dealer if they saw the panel had a gage for the galley, should have assumed there was a second tank and went looking for the pull handle. A newbie would not have known but a dealer should have.... Glad you got it figured out though, just be grateful the tank didn't split like mine did when it got full....

Yup, old age striking again. Had to pull all the way thru this pull thru so the antenna can see around a tree. As a result, have the truck parked on the back end instead of the front as usual. Must have confused this old mind.

Hi
Anyone that has had formal training in the automotive industry is trained to use the term “Drivers side” and “Passenger side” to describe which side of the vehicle whether it is a towable or a motor driven unit.

I thought that was why there was a receiver hitch on the back!

That would sure eliminate the Pin Weight issue. Then you could tow a Monty with almost anything with a receiver hitch, provided you could keep the rear wheels on the ground.

I'm surprised, what with all the idiotic warning labels all over these rigs, like the stove top cover that says don't operate the burners with the cover closed, that they don't have a sticker on the kingpin box that says, Tow From This End'

Or better yet, A label on the rear that says " do not attempt to tow trailer from this end" I know people that could use that warning.
