Colter Bay Campground

We spent last year (our first) workamping in Grand Teton. I was the Campground Lead (assistant manager basically) and was offered the manager position for this year. We will be there around May 14-Oct 5. If you are in the Tetons come by Colter Bay and say hello to us in site A1.

My wife and I stayed there several years ago. The Tetons are a special place as all of our national parks are. Wyoming’s Union Pass is my favorite place to boondock.
Welcome to MOC

Congratulations and welcome to the MOC. We were fortunate to spend many vacations in the Tetons, Yellowstone area. It was normal and affordable for my folks since we lived in Wyoming to begin with.
Enjoy your promotion.

I tried the last 2 years for a reservation made in January for July or August. No go! I may try this fall for 2020. I haven't stayed there for 10-12 years, but would kind of like to do it again. Nice place.

I probably misread this on their website, but I think I read that all sites are first come-first served...no reservations? Only a few sites have electricity. We love the Teton area and will go back again in a year or so. Sites are $53 a nite.

No. Most campgrounds are first come/first served in the area. Coulter takes reservations. I am sure it is the only one that takes reservations AND has full hookups. Well, not quite sure - the Flagg Ranch (?) also takes reservations, but not sure about hookups.

You are probably right. I have been up in that area many times but not to that campground. Will get over there one day soon I hope. Full hookups for me please.

From their website:

Camping at Colter Bay is the perfect family fun experience. The campground offers camping for tents and dry camping for RVs. Campsites include 335 individual campsites (160 tent spots with tent pads), 11 large group campsites, 13 electric accessible sites.
All sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Bear boxes are available for most tent sites. We have 22 restrooms with running water and flush toilets. Showers and coin operated laundry services are available for an additional fee at the Colter Bay Launderette, which is just a short walk.
All individual campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Advance reservations are only taken for group sites. Sites generally fill daily between noon and 3pm from mid-June to mid-August.

Just a "heads up" to those not familiar with the situation at Colter Bay. There are two separate areas with two different arrangements. The Colter Bay CAMPGROUND is without hookups and (I believe) is first come first served without reservations.

The Colter Bay RV PARK is with hookups and REQUIRES reservations--long in advance I have experienced.

They are both in the National Park and are next to each other, but with very different arrangements for getting a site.

It surely helps to keep this in mind and to use the title of which one to which you are referring.

Thank you. That is what was confusing me. Learn a little something every day.

PadreDW , you are correct! Colter Bay RV Park takes reservations (good luck) and Colter Bay Campground is first come first serve. We have only 10 electric sites at the campground and they are considered ADA priority sites. If you plan on coming to the Tetons, a little advice on camping, either have solid reservations or get to your prospective campground early. During the high season (mid June-Labor Day) we were filling around noon. And we have over 300 sites!!! This year will be particularly bad as Fishing Bridge RV Park in Yellowstone will be closed for repairs for the ENTIRE SUMMER! I think they are also around 300 sites so that is going to cause mass chaos in the Yellowstone-Teton area.

A little known hint for getting reservations at Colter Bay RV Park..........Don't necessarily believe the website when it tells you the park is full for your desired dates. Call, and they may have some sites. Until the RV park opens in early May you will be talking to a reservation agent but once the park opens in early May call the RV park directly and they may have something. I know they started taking reservations for this summer around June last year, so good luck.

Oh, I forgot, Flagg DOES take reservations also. Gros Ventre is first come first serve like CB Campground. And...........you can run a generator in CB Campground and Gros Ventre from 8am-8pm.
