Mission Tire Replacement

We've had our Monty for about a year now and currently have it in the shop for some routine maintenance, fixes. We have the original Mission tires with about 2200 miles on them. No problems yet. While we have the Monty in the shop, we were thinking of replacing the tires. Any recommendations on brand of tires we should replace them with? We have looked at the Michelin XPS Ribs but were told they only come in 235/85R 16. The Missions are 235/80R 16. Can we put the Michelins on the Monty if they are slightly bigger? What other good tires might we consider?

Thanks.

We put the Michelin XPS ribs on ours in July. They are only slightly larger and no problem (at least on my 3075). Have put about 1500 miles on them and they ride great.
We had about 5000 miles on our Missions and I saw a bulge starting to form on the inside of one of them. Decided that was as far as I wanted to take them. Since you are replacing them with no obvious problems yet, you may or may not be able to get any compensation from Tireco. But it is worth a try. I called them about mine and they sent a UPS truck to pick them up right away. Still waiting for them to decide whether to pay anything.

Jenklekirk, Glen or Lonnie may be along to give you their advice which is back by years of tire service.
I just bought the Michelin XPS ribs and were surprised by how much they weigh. I took off an off brand and it was 10 lbs lighter. Before I bought the Michelins I called the USA distributor and they told me that the XPS was a sized down tractor tire.

By putting Michelin XPS Ribs on, you're cutting down your rated load on the 3400Rl which is over 15000 lbs.
I have the same trailer and went with Goodyear G14's rated for 3750,
Michelin XPS Ribs are rated at 3042,you would be losing 2832 lbs of rating.
Just a thought!

Thanks for the information. That's a good point about weight. Are your Goodyears 235/85 or 235/80? Don't know much about tires but should they have an ST rating?

Janet.

Has anyone put on the Goodyear Marathons and what do you think of them? Those are the only tires we have found that have the exact specs of the Missions and are specifically for RVs.

Our 08 3400RL came with China made Marathon's. One thing I checked was the mfg date. They were only about 6 months old when we bought in February. No problems yet. If you read RV.net forum, yu will hear raves about Michelins, mixed about the G14s and flames about most other tires.
On prev 5er, had Mission and then Carlisle. Extensive damage from catastrophic failures. Went to Michelins w/o problem. Would have kept them except they were only 16" rims.
All said, I'll see how we do with the MArathons, for now.
