I don't believe any RV mfgr. installs decent mattresses. Mattress replacement was the first thing we did. You should be able to cut the platform down to 60x80". I recommend you get the same type of mattress you have at home.

We replaced ours with a Brooklyn Bedding mattress about 3 months ago, so far we both like it. I have had occasional bouts with back pain and it does not seem to aggravate that. If you are going with a king mattress and you have the window ledge/shelf things that run along the sides of the bed, be sure to measure carefully. We went with a 14 mattress in RV short king, and the mattress was jammed in between those. I took those out until I can get them cut down to size. It was impossible to make the bed. If I had it to do over again, I would go with a queen and trim the base as needed

We bought a 10 year old 34rl and first thing we did was discard the mattress.

We replaced our OEM king with a Wilderness RV king Plush, absolutely fantastic. It is heavier than the original however, since DW and I both have back issues, this makes our lives so much better. All our dogs and cat fit with us and still room.

Exactly what we did, we would rather more room to move around than a king mattress. The manufacturer's one was awful

We immediately changed from a king to a queen and we love the extra space! We bought a Zinus 12 gel from Amazon. Its soooooo comfortable😊. We cut the platform down to size ourselves (and by me, I mean my husband! With me as the measured). . It was pretty easy

King to Queen

Not sure anyone actually answered your question. I changed my previous camper from the King to the Queen. Just measure the mattress you want to use and cut the plywood base slightly less than the mattress. You don't have to have the plywood base come all the way out and in fact you might end up rapping your shin so cut it a few inches less than the mattress.

Mattresses

We had our bed cut down from a king to queen. Love it, so easy to get around. Costco has some great mattresses w memory foam.

you might to double check before you start cutting the bed on a High Country 295RL because the is water lines and drain lines under the bed

I don't know the specifics of that particular trailer but doesn't the bed platform lift so you can see what's there? On our 331RL the platform sits on what appears to be a generic base that fits both a king and queen mattress. No worries about water lines when cutting down the base.

First measure the base, if it's 58" of so your good to go just buy the mattress. We had to cut ours down to that. We have storage under it so it was easy. We went for the Nectar mattress in a box. We love it and it has a 365 day trial period. I also changed the gas shocks as this one is a bit heavier than the original and the hinge didn't want to stay open. That was easy too. I also extended the length of the base as the original hung over by about 7" which made it hard to sit at the foot and put your socks on.
