First Outing With The New Truck
We took our first trip with our new truck on April 18th and we were very pleased with the difference it made in comfort and towing ability. It was nice to be able to keep up with traffic and feel such confidence in the rig. The Monty has always been well behaved when towing but it did could present a bit of a challenge to the previous TV. If the on board computer is fairly accurate, we were getting about 12.5 mpg when towing and we only have 5000 miles on it. I'm glad to be a diesel guy now!
(Actually, this is my second diesel but the first one was a 350 cid gasser conversion by GM and so I don't really count it!)

Glad things went good. You have something now that will pull it.

The overhead computer is known to be a joke for mileage. LOL

Congrats! The Cummins is a great engine and you'll like it even better when fully broken in. However...I wouldn't place too much value on the computer mileage display - mine now says 14.4 after 1800 miles pulling the Monty but actual measured value is only 11.7 based on GPS mileage. YMMV!

WE love our Dodge for pulling as well and the on board computer is not accurate at all. On a recent trip out west(1400 miles not pulling) we found the hand calculation to read 3 more mpg than the computer. Until now I haven't been overly happy with the fuel economy based on the computer readout but now I am much happier.

Those diesel duallys are wonderful for serious towing!
My Chevy fuel computer is very accurate, for both mpg and fuel used...had one in an 05 Silverado half ton that was just about worthless.

Well this is just great! For 42 years I have been playing with and relying on computers and I am definitely getting the impression I better resort to paper and pen. (Can I at least use a calculator to figure the mileage?)

Steve, is this the new 6.7 Cummins?
My computer is very accurate on mpg, too.

Steve,
Sorry I'm so late with the reply. I haven't been on the forum for over a week now. I can't wait to retire so I can have so much spare time! I have the 5.9 engine. We haven't run the truck since our last trip (two weeks) so I have not had a chance to check the mileage with a calculator. I did check my van - the computer said 23.8 and my calcs said 23.1. Then I started to wonder - doesn't the odometer run off the computer as well??? Maybe I just need to reach the point where all I do is watch the fuel gauge and "filler up" before it reaches E?
Regards,
