Not sure about the Ford manual, but GM's talks about it not being a problem with exceeding the rpm when going downhill in Tow Haul mode. I also got concerned the first time I saw how high the tach was when the D/A was downshifting on the way down the Rockies. I like the way the way the D/A works on the downhill. The only thing I might change next time is moving up to a 3500.
