DICOR ROOF CLEANER & SEALER

I am getting ready to clean the roof on my Monty. This will be the first time for me.
First question is does anyone know if I have a rubber roof on this model, which i a 3455SA 2011.
Second question, the people at Camping World suggested I use DICOR roof cleaner & DICOR roof-gard to seal it.
Are there any experienced users of this product out there ?
Any other suggestions as an alterinative to clean & seal the roof ?
Thanks for any help on this subject.

Larry,

Your roof is probably made by Dicor, so Camping World will suggest their products to clean it with. I'm sure it will work just fine.

I use Spic and Span and a little Murphy soap, along with Clorox to get the mold off. Lots of folks here use Dawn dish detergent too. They ll seem to work, just do not use anything with petroleum distillates in it as this will ruin the rubber material.

I've also heard of several folks who had trouble with squirrels or birds making holes in the roof because they used a citrus scented product to clean the roof. Animals were looking for the food supposedly. Hasn't happened to me, but since I heard that I make sure I don't use that type of product. Better safe than sorry.

Dicor, the roof manufacturer recommends Dawn Dish Soap -- the blue stuff. Don't use anything that is scented because as was mentioned, birds and squirrels like that.

Thanks for your responses. But now I have a couple more questions.
First, do I have to put a sealer on the roof after washing all the time or is it just because the unit is new. Or can I skip the sealer all together.
Next, if I choose to use the Dawn (blue soap) & Murphy's liquid soap, how slick does it get up there. How do I protect myself . I'm 73 and do not need any accidents.
And last, after washing the roof is it suggested to wash the entire Monty also.

Thanks again for your help.

My unit is 6.5 years old and I have never used a sealer. I wash the roof with dawn and a car wash brush every time we return from a trip and it still looks pretty close to new. (We do store it inside but it has seen over 400 nights of use). I never noticed it being slick and regular tennis shoes grip pretty well. I always wash the entire unit following the washing of the roof. Lots of stuff rinses off that roof. Jim

The roof can get very slippery, especially after you put a sealer on it.

If you have black spots(mold) the Clorox works the best, followed with a good soapy wash.

When I do mine, Im on the roof, and DW is on the ground washing the sides at the same time. The oxidized goo runs down the sides and it will stain the decals and the driveway.

Be sure to ware a pair of white soled shoes, cause black soled sneakers will leave marks everywhere.

I also use the blue Dawn for roof cleaning (that is whenever I decide there is nothing better to get done than to clean the rig's roof!). Over the last two rigs I can recall performing this task exactly twice, have not done it on the new rig yet since the roof still has some tinges of white left!!

I just use my 1800 psi electric pressure washer ,been doing this for 10 years works awesome! IT IS ONLY 1800 psi so it does not harm the roof like a big 2500psi gas powered one will ,I do not use it on the sides of the 5th or it might hurt the graphics, JUST THE ROOF! all my nieghbors borrow mine to do thiers also and they love how it works too, Forget the soap and scrubbing TOO MUCH WORK!

Bigskyjimmie, if you ever need warranty work done on the unit NEVER tell them you have ever used ANY pressure washer. A friend of mine had his warranty cancelled over that issue...

1 5 gallon bucket.
Add 1/2 to 1 cup of bleach.
Now, put in 3 to 3 1/2 gallons of water.
Squirt a bunch of Dawn blue dishwashing detergent.
Rinse off roof completely. Use a deck scrubbing brush and rinse off. I usually do a section of the roof at a time. around the skylights, vents, antenna, etc, I use a wash mitt on the self leveling caulking. That way, I'm not as apt to peel it off with the deck brush.

Remember, soft brush on the sides, stiffer brush on top. Handle with care
