50 amp surge protector @ 30 amp service

I was reading some messages on a 50 amp surge protector.I'm looking to buy a portable one before our next trip but have a question, what if a 30 amp is only avabile @ camp site, would I use a 30 to 50 amp adapter @ the service pedestal;then the surge protector;then plug in shore line. Does this sound about right? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Put a 30 - 50 amp dogbone on and plug it in.
PS ... you may want to figure out a way to secure it to something depending on the neighborhood you're in. Some of us have in a fashion hard wired them in at a location inside the storage area.

I have used our 50 amp portable surge protector on a 30 amp site many times. It will do the job, just use the appropriate adapter for the site you have.
I have even used it on the 15 amp at home, to protect it from lightning strikes near the house. Great protection.

Progressive says there's no problem using their 50amp ems with a 30amp service, but I had the opportunity to pick up a 30amp cheap so I did. With the dog bone between the plug and the ems it caused problems locking the ems to the pedestal. Since I could solve the problem cheap I did, but you don't have to.

Progressive's 50 AMP unit is specifically designed to work 50 or 30. With 50AMP, you can usually close the pedestal cover, and most of the time, the cover be locked with a padlock. When we can't do that, have a bike cable lock that I wrap around the surge box and the pedestal stand. There is a metal tag on the surge box power cable itself for securing, but I am not impressed with it, and prefer the padlock, or high quality cable lock for securing.
