I use RV antifreeze and leave the water heater by-pass open for awhile to pump some antifreeze in it after I have drained it and then use the by-pass to fill the rest of the system. Years back the water must not have gotten completely drained and it froze and split the tank. I was able to weld it up and avoided buying a new one, but now put some antifreeze in it to make sure it doesn't happen again.
