we ARE fortunate !
Took son and gf and her son out fishing yesterday....first day out this year. After being on the water most of day, we came in with a cooler full of perch..went up and pulled down the dually with trailer to pick up boat and heard an awful, heart wrenching sound while pulling up ramp with boat...got out, and what do I see? See the pic below.
We are very fortunate that I wasn't hauling the monty down the road at 65.

I'd fix that if I were you. It looks like something you need. Seroiusly though, you were fortunate it happened when it did. Glad no one was hurt or nothing else got damaged.

Just really glad you are safe. Bad things do happen at a more convenient time.

Dennis says a little duck tape and bungee cords should fix that but may need a little wire too!!
Sure glad to hear no one was hurt and that's the most important thing.

Bill-- I'd have that fixed before you come out to Nebraska for the Central Plains Rally in July. It is not the correct position for that rod. Your tire should be alined also before the trip! As you said-- you were lucky you weren't towing the Monte on the Interstate when it came loose. Best of luck and hope it wasn't to costly to fix!

How lucky you were...................... I'm sure glad you weren't hooked up and on the highway
So what caused it to come loose or brake? I have heard of some problems with Dodge's front ends, was this one of them? was it covered under warrintee or did you take the brunt of all the repairs.

Doggone, that could have ruined a perfectly good tire.

Hey, good thing you had the boat with you, so you could get home to get help.
I hope you get back on the road quickly (and safely).

It happened as I was pulling the boat up out of the water...ended up blocking the "retrieval" ramp at a very busy public launch for over an hour. Had zero warning, started pulling up ramp, making a sharp right turn then all hell broke loose. no, not covered by warranty (110K) but should be too awful bad...not like if it had come apart doing 65 down the turnpike !
Joined good sam roadside ass't last month covering all vehicles/rigs/trailers. Was on hold for 15 minutes until I got to talk to someone...at first they said I'd have to take care of the boat/trailer and I told him he better check on that...came back on and said all was in order, truck on the way.
Truck still at shop, I guess they'll take care of it monday. I've never seen this happen before, but the wrecker guy said he sees it quite often, just not normally on dodges.

Wild Horse, check with a Dodge dealer. I think there was some kind of recall on some Dodge Ram front end parts. Either tie rod ends or ball joints. You should check with them.

Definetly check with dealer, there is a recall on those parts, I have an 06 and got mine checked and it was ok. That would have been really bad at 65 and loaded, you are a lucky man!

OK, update time.
I researched it, no recalls or service bulletins.
Other tierod end is going bad as well, and the ball joints were a little loose...not terrible, but not great. I just gave them the green light to do it all. For a little less than a grand, I get piece of mind..we will be doing alot of driving shortly, and I'd rather be proactive. Should have my baby back late tomorrow afternoon.

Bill,
Capn Chris could send you some of my TV Coax cable to tie it up with! Probably ought to get a more permanent fix though before hauling the Monty. Just thought I'd share some of my words of wisdom with ya to help you out. What did you do once you saw that tie rod hanging there, besides the obvious "OH Sh__" ?
Let us know what happenned?
Chuck

I'm surprised you were not recalled on that part. I just had my '04 2500 in for two recalls and checking the tie rods was one of them. Mine turned out to be the correct tie rods and not the defective ones but I guess Dodge had problems with some. Maybe it was just the older models.
