Campground in MN?
We are planning to go up to Minnesota for a few weeks in about two weeks. Can anyone recommend a nice campground that would be on a fishing lake? Heard the fishing is great and there are many lakes but we haven't located a campground on a lake. Wonder if anyone would be kind enough to recommend one for us? Thanks.

Mille Lacs Island Resort, Wahkon, MN, is on a rather big lake with fishing available. We stayed there last year and had a good time. A little isolated to everything else, i.e. No Walmart real close. Check em out.....

We go up to Northern Minn. every fall; we do not fish but enjoy staying in the campgrounds and biking on the bike trails. There are alot of campgrounds around the Brainerd area and Nisswa which is just north of Brainerd. There is Sullivan's Campground, Galles Upper Cullen, Fritz's Campground plus others. These are all located on lakes. Sullivans is on NOrth Long Lake which is a larger lake. Galles Upper Cullen is on the Upper Cullen which is smaller than North Long Lake and I am not sure of the lakes name for Fritz's. Nisswa is a very neat little town with lots of shops. The Paul Bunyun Bike Trial goes from Brainerd the whole way up to Hackensack and on further north to join up with I think it is the Heartland. This is a beautiful area of the state, of course we are partial because we live in Minn.! I would call ahead to a campground because this is a busy time of year for them. Have fun and enjoy the Northland and listening to the call of the Loons.

Thanks, Silverbird that's the area where we were thinking of seeing. Are you familiar with Aitkin? A very small cg called Ripple River RV? Looks to be very small and NO amenities and we could deal with that. We don't normally use their pools, exercise rooms, etc. Just wonderin. Also looking at the Mille Lacs resort as suggested above on the way up to Brainerd area. Thanks for this info.

I am not familiar with the campground at Aitkin. That is closer to the Duluth area which is also a very interesting city, the harbor and the aerial (sp) bridge where the ships come through to load and all along the North Shore, places like Gooseberry Falls and Split Rock Lighthouse.

There are some beautiful Corp of Engineer Parks in the Brainard area that we just love. You can't go wrong with any of the campgrounds in the Brainard area. Alexandria is also a great fishing area. Mille Lacs is a super lake to catch walleye.
Minnesota is called the Land of 10,000 Lakes but the actual count is 11,842. I think they all have fish in them.
