Army Corp of Engineer Campgrounds

Has anyone stayed at any of the Corp of Engineer Campgrounds. We met up with someone who worked for them and says they are really nice. He came from Alabama and says there are a few really nice ones there. Most are on Rivers and lakes. Most have water and electric and some have sewer. They are all under $20 and with the Golden Age Passport you can get one for half price. 14 day restriction. Just wondering, as have not even seen one yet and wondered if sites are big enough for large rigs like ours.

I've camped at a number of them, and many are big enough for our rigs. You can get reservations at most of them through the following site.

Enjoy!

We stay at Corp of Engineers Campgrounds whenever we can. Inexpensive and very clean and large sites.

The Corp of Engineer campgrounds are our favorite places to camp. They are very reasonable with the Golden Age pass and very well kept. Their settings are very natural, almost always by a lake or river and in a wooded area. They are cleaned up between campers and left in immaculate condition. Most do not have sewer connections and are in a rural setting. Some folks have tried to get an extended stay by making a reservation on each partner's Golden Age passport, 14 days plus 14 days. I don't know if it's allowed or not. You can depend on their quality.

As an added bit of information, some of these campgrounds are very popular and reservations are a good idea. We reserve eight months ahead of time so we can camp near our grandson. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to get a site. Be sure to check out ReserveAmerica. There's also another site, something like Corp campgrounds in your search engine, that provides information on their locations.

We stayed at several in Kansas and liked them. Many have some full hookup sites but some are electric and water only.

Kansas has a lot of really good state park campgrounds, too. Like the COE parks, some have some full hookups but most are water/elec with dump stations. Almost all are very nice parks. Most have good to excellent spacing but a few are tight.

We stayed at a very good COE CG on the GA/SC border near Augusta. Right on the big lake just outside of town. Water and elect, dump site on the way out and in. Really large pull through "loops" on the lakeside. About 40 yards to the next neighbor.

Best,

In reply to army corps. parks. We live in texas and this state has lots of corps parks. Within 35-40 miles we have a half dozen of more, my handle tells you where I live. Within a few minutes of our house there is Lake Whitney, west of Hillsboro, Tx and there is several parks there and they are nice, though they do not have sewer hookups, they do have dump stations. We go to Lofers Bend a lot as its close, only the east side is open during winter months. Lake Belton, near Temple is very nice as well and is simular to Whitney. Corps parks are all over texas because of the amount of flood control that was put in place back in the 30s. The great part is they are half price if you are over 65 or disabled and you get the Golden age passport card. The 14 day limit can be extended also if the park is not busy, which they seldom are in the off season. We have been to Whitney in the off season when we were the only trailer in the park, for days. We love the solitude.

Great campsites, can't beat the price and quality of sites.
