Support bracket of some kind for closet rod

2024 3231CK

Considering the rod in the closet has a hanger screwed into essentially cardboard above it, I’m wondering if anyone has fabricated some kind of support for the rod so that it does not pull out over time?

I’m considering a rod from the ground up, but it would get in the way a bit.

The other option is something from the back, but it would have to be angled.

Has anyone already done this and have any suggestions?

Thanks!

You are wise to think of this problem before it happens. There are a ton of Threads on the failures of the closet red. Rather than trying to list them all, it is easier if you do a Search (use the "Powered by Google" one in the brown box above) using the terms 'closet rod'. That will get you started down the right path.

Here's a link to some fixes that have been done

My post # 9.
Later I added a center support using 1.25" PVC pipe like post # 6.

Here's how I fixed mine. Unfortunately, that entire shelf collapsed (several times). This was my "final" fix. It not only holds the shelf up, but it also holds the clothes bar up also. After I did this, I never had problems again.

My closet is along the entire rear of the camper. It gets the most bounce. Add a couple hundred pounds of clothing on that cloths rod and add "stuff" with weight on the shelf above, and those 4 original screws that were screwed into a styrofoam wall didn't have a chance. The firs time the shelf collapsed was on our maiden voyage. What a mess to deal with. It took 3 different attempts. This is the one that actually worked and has held the test of time.

The middle board is supported by 2 small supports on each side, top and bottom. The boards on the wall are held up with Liquid Nails. The boards are wedged tight. The shelf cannot collapse any more and it's strong now!
