Awning cord question

Today when I went by the storage unit to get something from the 5th wheel, I noticed something strange. There is a rubber coated steel cord coming out of the top of my awning. It’s out about 2 feet on the front side. It looks to me like it is used to attach the awning to the frame at the top. 🤷🏼*♂️

I tried to fish it back in, grabbing it with a pair of needle nose pliers but it doesn’t move either way (with the awning fully retracted) I didn’t see it while traveling and wonder how this can come out like this when I can’t even budge it with way now. Any ideas or experience on this?

Not a common problem, but it has occurred before. Take a look at this Thread. https://www.montanaowners.com/forums....php?p=1282396

Thanks! Mine is on the awning but seems like it’s the same concept. I might have to extend the awning to relieve pressure before I’m able to get it back in. *♂️
If it goes back in, I’ll definitely put a set screw to hold it so it don’t happen again. Thanks again!
