Did it for a long time, had to give it up when I ran out of parts (body parts that is).

You can probably tell from the responses so far that most that participate in this forum are, let's say, at the upper end of their life expectancy. Myself included. Probably won't find to many dirt bike riders among this crowd. My back hurts if I get up from the recliner improperly.

Now that is what I call an enduro, I would have to mortgage the Monty to afford one of those. I met 2 Austrian gentlemen on the Dempster Hwy in the Yukon a couple of years ago riding those bikes, they were covered head to toe with mud and had put 8000 miles on them since arriving in Canada.

I have been looking for a 400cc dual purpose for some time but want a used one. I ride my quad every couple of weeks and have made day trips on that of over 70 miles on Forest Service Roads. Does my back ache at the end of the day...You bet and so does my rear end and almost everything else but I keep doing it. Some of us old geezers still get out there and that is good because we keep the Chiropractors and pill pushers in business...

Would love to ride a bike like you just bought Gary, have fun and enjoy it even if you have to go alone.

Nunya,

Not this time, picked it up last week and it has a total of 49 miles on it. Have a lot of extras on order right now, engine guards, headlight guard, bags, etc. Will bring it when we come back in the fall, this is a work is slow and I'm bored trip, decided Wednesday afternoon to leave Thursday morning with no fore thought. We will be on paved roads only in Nancy's Honda.

Sometime will ride the White Rim trail when I convince Nancy to go with me. Will use it here in Moab for **trail** riding only, no rock climbing, Hells Revenge or anything too difficult.

There are published routes in the BMW R1200GS sites for all the western states that are part paved and part off road with waypoints for gas and food, similar to what is published for the Moab area.
At least once I'll ride it to Utah from Ohio, with Nancy driving the support truck and bike trailer. (The support truck is for me, not the bike.)

Later....

I carry a Kawasaki Super Sherpa 250 on the back of the Monty and have been known to hit a few trails.

Well I never thought of a 1200 gs as a enduro, I do ride a Buell Uly. I have done some adventure riding and some single track. But when I go enduro I take my 605 CCM or one of my Hondas.

I had a hitch welded to the frame that had two receiver hitches on a 4" square tube. I don't trust the single hitch cycle carriers. Send me a PM and I can email pictures of what I did. It has worked good for two years now.

I made a three receiver hitch. The to outside ones are mounted directly to the frame. The center one goes back about 3-4 feet and crosses over to the frame to make more of a weight distribution type hitch. This stops downward twist/stress .
PM me and I'll send pics.

Hi

I see where you have the rack mounted.

I have been worried about putting much more weight back there because I already had to repair the frame back of the rear axle.

How long have you been carrying that weight back there?

;I have the rack on since new, about 7 years, the only problem I had was that I bent an axle while carrying the bike. There was a section of hi way being redone with a 6" inch lip, hit hard enough to disrupt every thing in the trailer and dislodge the bike, need for small fiberglass repair in rear.
That being said my trailer had under rate red axles, two months after mine was built they went from 5200 to 6000# axles. At that time I changed mine to 7000# axles and have not had any problems since.

Mtheo,

The bicycles will go on the back of the RV, the GS will get its own trailer or in the back of the truck or...maybe once I'll ride it to here in Moab.
