Door Opens

Holy dodo Batman - driving south out of Dallas today, just got out of the worst. Look in the passenger mirror, something looks wrong - drats, the door is open a little and dang the grab handle is out …

Get pulled over, DW jumps out. Said she had to unlock the door to close it. Get's it closed and puts grab handle back and made sure it was dead bolted …

Upon thinking back, I had not set the dead bolt after closing the door leaving COE park after dumping …

Moral of the story - make sure setting dead bolt is on list

Anyone ever had same issue?

Never had the door open, but the hand rail being left out has happened a couple of times over 40 years of RVing.

Never had that happen to me either . You have me thinking I may need to start using my dead bolt also.

Never had it happen either, but have found both the door handle and deadbolt unlocked. Lucky for us, the slipstream had held the door closed. Scary thought about what could have transpired between take off and landing, if the hinge had not been forward of the door opening and it kept it closed. BTW, door lock-checking is on both our pre-flight check lists now.

I never lock the door (handle or dead bolt) while traveling as we typically use our restroom rather than the restroom at a service station or rest area. But I have never (I don't think) left the handle out.

As a safety feature, the handle opens if pushed on by the door

Agree, but it would take a push from inside.

Never had that happen in 15+ years of towing a fifth wheel.

I replaced the door lock with a keyless entry door lock latch handle deadbolt with keypad & 20m wireless remote control fob. We are now in the habit of locking the door using the keypad, which ensures the deadbolt is always locked.

I had the exact same thing happen to me once. I now use the deadbolt too

Never had a problem with the door (my hand rail folded over the door) but once east bound from San Antonio on I-10, the strong north wind unfolded the stairs on me. Now use a bungi cord to hold steps closed

Never had a door open, but have left the pass-through or outside hatches open before. Luckily, never lost anything from the outside compartments.
