Now that I know my wife will be coming, we both will be looking forward to this. Great topic that many people will benefit from.

Wife and I have been thinking about this trip for the last year. We will not be at the rally but would like to be included in the resultant information and also the actual trip. Please keep us in the loop.

I notice there are two Alaska themed forums at the rally. Is one a commercial company guided caravan and this one an informational do-it-yourself Q & A? We lived in Alaska for 4 years and might have a few nuggets to throw in there.

The one we are putting on is similar to what we did last year. We are two couples who have made the trip separately and are pooling our knowledge to present to people. We are sharing what we know. Yes, we welcome questions and input.
The other one is most likely a commercial caravan company.

The second session that was to be put on by Fantasy Travels has been cancelled due to a medical problem by the presenters and they are unable to make it. Hope that answers any confusion that may come up!

Hello fellow Sourdough.
I was the first baby born in the territory of Alaska a few years before you. I lived in Kenai, Anchorage and Fairbanks. It's amazing how many Cheechakos love coming to our state of birth.

My wife and I went through B.C, The Yukon and Alaska in 2018.
There are two things we recommend before going. One is to get the Mile Marker Book, also go on line and get the Alaska Tour Coupon Book, Not the digital. You can give the tear out couple to someone easier then the digital one. The coupon book has a lot of great coupons for the whole trip, highly recommended.
There is a hidden gem, the town of Whittier. The treat is getting there, a $15 toll and a 2-1/2 mile one way at a time traffic/train tunnel, turn your dash cam on. They have boat glacier tours, and history.
The gondola in Portal, seniors ride for $50 a couple and get a $40 voucher for food and gifts. We gave our 2 for 1 coupon to a couple behind us.
I had fun in Valdez, because my last name is Valdez.
History: A Spanish settlement in the 1700's. It was pronounced Valdez before the Spanish American War, later changed to Russian pronunciation of Val-deeze.
Have fun on your trip and watch the roads for animals and road conditions. We replaced 3 axles, 1 leaf spring bracket and leaf spring.
Happy trails.
