question on window sealer during installation
just checked all the windows on the Monty and every one has the sealer from the original installation coming out and cracked all around them (black in color). has anyone redid the chalk on their windows because of this? was planning on razor blading that excess off (carefully for sure) then taping off the windows with painters tape and then chalking with the right white chalk for the rv. any other suggestion would be appreciated. will most likely wait for warmer weather for this project.

Dennis, I think they all ooze out like that and crack. Mine certainly has. I continue to watch for leaks. We are in our 10th year and everything is still water tight. I thought about trimming off dry and cracked portion but decided why fool with something that's not broke. As I see it, it's really just a cosmetic thing and at my age I'm not that into cosmetics anymore. Truth be known I am probably the only one that notices it on my rig. Jim

There's nothing wrong with your window frame seal ... it's just sealer that oozes out over time, dries out, and cracks. I've put a thin piece of stainless steel behind the excess for backup and trimmed it away flush with the frame for better looks. That stuff is smeared along the full width of the window frame before the windows go on.

We have had two windows leak, due to a small thin gap that developed between the window flange and the outside wall, and both were in slide end walls. On both, I trimmed off the oozed black material, and carefully applied black silicone caulk, which stopped the leaks. Whether this is right or wrong, it has worked for us. I suppose the proper way would be to remove the window, and replace the sealant, but the end result is the same, stop the water leak, and the appearance is no worse than the oozed sealant.

Have had good luck with windshield sealer available at any good auto parts store.

What is us3/4" wide black butyl chauk, comes in a roll from several sources, not very expensive. I trim the excess with plastic scraper, then apply clear silicon chauk if you see any potential leak spots. John

Ditto to what Jcurtis said. Instructions from my (reliable) dealer. I just removed most of the black stuff and sealed the tops, as I didn't have enough silicone to do it all.
Mine sure looked ugly with it all jagged and messy before cleaning it up.
