Roof Damage

We had a storm come through last week and initially thought we just sustained damage to two separate slide out awning toppers. Well, got back on the roof cleaning everything up this weekend and discovered some damage to the roof that went through the ceiling and also a small piece of the roof material missing. Both are less than the size of a fifty cent piece. Question, what’s the best temporary repair method until I can get insurance involved and get a repair estimate.? Dicor, tape or something else.

Eternabond tape. Clean area well with alcohol or thinner install tape and rub firmly. should be good for life of roof.

Yes Eternabond will last longer than the rest of the trailer.

Your adjuster will want to see the damage, Eternabond will prevent that.

Picture is proof enough.. he should get credit for stopping water intrusion.

4" Eternabond. No need to involve insurance.

Thanks for the replies, I will get me a roll for future issues. I have to replace two slide out toppers and with a $500 deductible , I’ll be close already even if I did the labor. Might as well have the dealer fix it as long as they don’t keep it for two months. Thanks again!

Took mine in for warranty work even though I was not going to but the service writer and service manager both stated even being short a few techs they are not real busy. Everyone is staying home and many have not thought about getting ready yet being hunkered down inside.

My experience with insurance is, you'll end up paying for it over time anyhow. Best to not involve them for petty claims.

I broke a leaf spring and bent axle coming back from Alaska on the Alaskan Highway, had it repaired and sent $1200 bill to Liberty Mutual. They paid it, minus my $500 deductible and in turn raised my annual rate by 20%. I've never had an accident, not one. Hadn't a traffic violation in over a decade. Started prospecting new insurance and turns out they listed the claim as an "at fault" accident. Meaning other insurance companies wouldn't give me a favorable rate.

Insurance is the biggest mandated scam next to the Ponzi scheme called the stock market.

It's shameful.

Eternabond it and leave it at that. I would not get my insurance involved.

Took my HC in last year for some work. The dealer called and said that I must have pulled under some trees because there was a hole in the roof. I was astounded as I had just recently been on the roof and had not taken the unit anywhere since (covered storage). I definitely had not been near any trees. They said it was about the size of a quarter. I said just eternabond it. They said that they were not allowed to do that. I then said, just leave it and I will take care of it when I get it back. They said that they could not allow that as it would void the warranty and that I needed to call my insurance company. Needless to say, I smelled a rat. I call USAA and they sent an appraiser to the dealer. He called me and said that the dealer wanted $10,000 to replace the roof. I like to have had a conniption fit. He ended up getting it done for $8,400. I am still mad about it. I think that there was a staple bulging under the rubber and that they pushed it through and gouged it with a finger to make it bigger. There was no other logical explanation for such a hole.

Tough top awning is a great product and the toppers are easy to replace yourself except you need two people.

Take pics. Then clean around with area with acetone an put etherbond tape. You dont want any water or moisture getting in waiting on adjuster to look at it.

Dicor! Had two holes from a large limb about 2-3”. Insurance replaced roof and applauded me for caulking to prevent water intrusion.
