Baggage door locks

Hi everyone, I seem to be having a challenge locating four replacement baggage slam door locks that are keyed different than the standard locks that came with our 5th wheel. The problem is our 3/4” thick doors. All the locks I’ve looked at say that they’re for wall thicknesses of 1.25” to 2”. That doesn’t seem to make any sense to me. If anyone has an answer to this small mystery, thanks in advance..

Thanks for the info. They’re a little pricey but they look quality. I contacted ‘RV Locks and More’, the manufacturer of my existing locks and they said that they don’t make them for .75” baggage doors. Planned obsolescence, huh? Haha.. Thanks again, Nils

If I understand you correctly - you are wanting to get cylinders that are not the universally keyed cylinders that have come on the standard Montana for years?

I came across an interesting write-up from a guy who wanted to convert all locks on his RV to use a single key. His RV is an Oliver travel trailer (not a Montana) but he included lots of details and key cylinder info…might be an interesting read for you. His last paragraph sums it all up -

“Security here is a relative term. The thin walls and doors are still easier to physically breach than any house door, but it’s more about just being the harder target. Thieves are opportunistic and unlikely to spend significant amounts of time in one place, so a trailer not openable by a set of generic keys is more likely to get passed over. There’s also the convenience factor. We now only have one key rather than three.”

Trekwood RV Parts sells slam latches and cylinders to fit your 2022 331RL…screen shot below.

Have you tried removing one of the slam latches and going to a locksmith to pick his brain for ideas? That’s what I would do first.

Do you have the gray G391 key that fits all the baggage doors? If yes, you can just replace the cylinders - no need to replace the entire lock mechanism.
Search for G391 lock cylinder replacement. You will need to get a "yellow" key that is designed to remove the cylinders you want to replace. Assuming you have a purple key for your entry door, you can purchase matching cylinders for your baggage doors and possibly for the access door for lowering your landing gear.
I made a YT video on this topic.

I do not lock my doors. The expense to replace a door that had been pryed open exceeds the value of what I keep inside.

Thanks for the info. I took one to a locksmith and they told me that they can’t re-key them. Maybe just low profit? What I thought was an easy task just started to get a bit harder. They’re 391 keys, I was just reading about just pulling them out with a yellow key and replacing the cylinders myself. Great idea. I wasn’t aware that could be done. Thanks again for the info you sent along..

Great idea. I saw that yellow key on Amazon recently but didn’t think too much about it until I checked out your you-tube video. Great information.. yellow key is being shipped, just have to pick out the four cylinders with the key code that I’ll choose. Thanks again.. Nils

Below is a link to an Amazon site with baggage slam locks.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0845MP9NP...fed_asin_title
I used one of these on my Montana after the latch broke.
If you search for RV baggage door master cylinders in Amazon, you'll find master cylinders and key change devices.

I replaced all of the locks on mine with Industrial Lock. They have everysize and type you might need and they will key them all alike. The locks can't be picked. i believe they call them a tumbler lock. You can order with different wall thickness and different size tongues. A little spending but well worth it.

Try this website: https://ch751.com/buy/locks/
The website changed after I purchased the locks, but the tubular locks are the ones i bought. Have had no problem with them. Ordered several different sizes and options to fit all of the exterior storage doors. I did order covers for any locks directly exposed to weather when traveling.
