Flaking furniture in 2015 Montana 3790RD
I'm new to the Forum. It was suggested that I post my problem on this site to see if anyone else is having a problem with ALL of their furniture in their trailer flaking. By flaking I mean the Faux leather is flaking off the backing causing a big mess. Since our trailer is fairly new I was hoping to find out if there was a recall on this furniture. I look to the people in the know - you! Any suggestions?

Barbara,
First, welcome to the forum!
The flaking furniture is a common issue. The two most common fixes are replacing it or covering it. Most have found it is not cost effective to recover it.

No recall on any of the Pleather (fake leather) coverings. It is a *VERY* common problem and the remedy is up to you as the vendors don't help.

Our theater chairs lasted 5 years before peeling. We went to looked online at replacements (there are several threads here with recommendations for places to buy quality replacements). We decided to go to a nearby Camping World to check out their furniture and try them out with a live “sit and rock”. On their porch were two swivel rockers in brown “pleather” on clearance for half of half, or $95 each. I never used the footrest on our old theater chairs, and Deb said she could use our Ottoman for her footrest. I figured we could give those a whirl until the pleather peels and then toss them. We think we got a deal.
We have dogs and the couch has been covered since the RV was new. We decided NOT to even look under the cover at the pleather. Our dogs have not yet complained about the comfort rating.

Wow that's pretty good. Ours didn't last 5 months. The furniture in our 2019 is completely disintegrating.

Well - before marveling at the longevity of our chairs - we are not and have not been full-timers. We took several extended trips 2018 - 2020. We did live in the unit for several months while I was on a work assignment 2018. The unit sat un-used for 18 months during covid ~2020 - 2022. DW started experiencing health issues Summer 2022, so travel was not possible (issues turned out to be caused by her neuro endocrine cancer diagnosed Aug 2023). The unit was stored in the TX sun until Jan 2021 and has been under cover since. We took one short trip July 2023). I would assume non-use contributed to longevity. The Texas heat probably worked it over pretty hard for 3 years...but the chairs had not been sat in as much as a full-timer would.
We took a trip to San Antonio a few weeks ago and found the peeling. Bought the chairs at Camping World. I cut up all the padded pieces and put them in the camp dumpsters. Took the springs to my neighbor's metal recycle collection pile - they are heavy and he appreciated the donation.

Not full timers either. We tend to use the rig more for travel north/south and only "camp" about 4-6 weeks a year. Furniture is always covered since we have English Bulldogs.
Baking in the Florida sun is what I think caused most of the deterioration, so I guess you're on the right track there. We almost never sit in the chairs or on the couches. More often than not, I don't even open the two rear slides when we are only travelling and stopping overnight. Truly sad that at nearly $100,000.00, the furniture couldn't last a whole year.

As others have said, this is a VERY common issue in the industry. Even today, they continue to put this crappy furniture in the RV’s. One reason is that the company, Thomas Payne, that makes most of this furniture is owned by Lippert. Your only solution is to put slip covers over the pealing furniture, or replace it with real leather furniture. It is shameful they still put this crap in their units. I replaced mine with new leather theater seats. I am replacing a bench seat cover and couch cushions with marine vinyl . Good luck with your replacements.

Just changed out the sofa and theater recliners in our 2015. We used RECPRO out of Indiana, good customer service, free shipping, fit was perfect. NO leather, all are very good heavy cloth covered. Very satisfied.

Good thing you went with a fabric instead of their “pleather”. Their pleather flakes just like the Thomas Payne crap. For folks that want leather, they will need to buy the real thing, otherwise there is vinyl which I am using on the top of a bench seat, which gets a lot of use from the grandkids and wet bathing suits.

Fabric Shed
We had the same issue in 2023 with our 2015 3610RL on the recliner set. Chatted with friends who suggested Amazon for a cover for the entire unit. That being said I first turned over both chairs and center console and vacuumed all the underside covering that had totally disintegrated. I then reviewed many options and settled for coverings that were a very dark grey which more or less looked good with the rear couch which has not deteriorated yet. It has been a good solution for very little money. Each chair has its own cover, and the center console cover has additional pockets for misc items. So far so good as we only have used the rig 3 times for a week each due to health issues. We plan on a month or so trip in 2025 so I'll give an update about this time next year as to how well my $100 repair worked.
