Dryer sheets take all the bugs out, but it would not take stains. Yesterday I spent about 2 hrs. to clean bugs with the dryer
sheets and than I used good quality rubbing compound to remove any stains. Cap looks like new again. I also applied two coats
of wax.

Carol - We worked outside and a couple of years ago we heard about Bounce and skeeters. We rubbed it on our exposed skin and the skeeters left us alone. We became believers quickly. We also leave Bounce strips in the rig when we store it for a while. Seems to keep mice, etc out.

Speaking of wax...what wax do you guys use on your rigs? Do you use one wax for the front cap and another for the sides (I do not have the gel-sides)?

boylanag,

Thanks for responding, I was using the cheap dryer sheets, maybe that made a difference, you say you rubbed on bare skin, I take it you had no need to dampen the sheets, just dry??

Thanks again, I am pretty allergic to some kinds of skeeters, probably all, some times it just bothers me worse, those at the lake were particularly bad, swell up something awful, multiple applications of that bite stop stuff did not even help.

Mike,
The manual just says automotive wax or polish developed for boats. Although I only have waxed the nose and rear clips, I use a marine poly wax for fiberglass - same as I use on the boat. Seems to be a little less harsh (but I do pull a little color from the decals so I avoid them).

Do you rub the bounce sheets on dry or do you wet them first? Wet might be a bit messy. Thanks.

Wax. I have tried several. I like Meguiar's but there are lots of good ones. The one I liked best was from the RV section in Walmart. I forgot the brand but it said Teflon in very prominent lettering. That one sure put a shine on, especially on our filon (non high gloss) Montana but also on the high gloss.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

Steve,
I found it worked best for me to wet the bounce sheets first. Then spray the front cap with water and wipe the bugs away. Make sure you do not do it in the direct sunlight! I found that out the hard way. Once you get the front cap clean, be sure to wash with soap and water to get the fabric softner off the coach.

We rub it on dry. No muss, no fuss - and it works.

Oops - I meant to say for the skeeters, not the bugs on the rig.

I have tried the Bounce sheets for bugs, and they work well but are pretty messy. I recently found some cleaner spray at the dollar store for (guess what?) a dollar! I think it's called Fantastic or something like that. Simply spray it on and let it set for a few minutes, then use a weak solution of the same stuff with a soft brush and the bugs come right off.

As for wax, I recently tried some Thetford RV wax. It's the easiest wax I have found to date, and it works great. Just wipe on / wipe off.

Scattershot, is that the same Fantastic that is a household cleaner? If so, I know it does a great job around the house. Do you know if it is a degreaser? thanks.

My mistake. This stuff is called Awesome. LA's Totally Awesome, to be exact, but I think it's the same stuff, only cheaper. It's marketed as a cleaner/degreaser.

Ahh, yes, Awesome. An RV'ers good friend. I agree, it's good stuff. I haven't tried using it on bugs but that's interesting. A degreaser will remove wax so you might want to use a wash/wax solution afterwards to get a coat of wax on there.

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking the other day that a good coat of wax might help, too, in keeping the bugs down.
