Diesel Availability

Heading north this weekend from south GA to NY state via I-75, I-85, I-77, I-81...Curious if anyone has traveled these roads within the last day or so and how the shutdown of the Colonial pipeline has effected the availability of diesel? Many local stations here are out of gasoline although they do still have diesel...for now. Thanks.

Our Kroger store which is just off I81 at mile marker 143 in Virginia is said to be run out of gasoline today. Don’t know about Diesel.

Thanks Lynwood.

From everything that I'm reading it's probably going to get much worse before it gets better.

Read on a other forum where some stations (don’t remember where) were limiting sales to max $20 on gas. Didn’t say about diesel. Likely a problem up the east coast. May mean a lot of short drives go next fuel stop.

News did say the pipeline should be “substantially restored” by week’s end. Maybe better by weekend although it will take time to get stations refueled.

Virginia’s governor has declared a state of emergency. Some stations are run short of gasoline in northern Va.

If you make it to Indiana, you won't have any problems with Diesel. However, expect to pay $3.29 a gallon though. The prices have been creeping up for the last 2 weeks. I was lucky and got Diesel for $3.19 today and the next station was $3.29, and just a week ago it went for $2.89. It's still available here, but prices are rising!

Just filled the car with gas and the truck with diesel here in Upstate NY. No shortage yet with gas at $2.83 and diesel at 2.99/gallon. Gas actually went down .02 while diesel has been steady at that price for about a month.

Went on a short trip and saw gas being delivered at two stations yesterday and one today and no gas fill lines though the diesel pump was backed up with 2-3 OTR non local semis while I got filled and with $354 showing on the pump before my fill up, possibly because they may be heading to PA which has shortage and is at least 50-60 cents more/gallon now at the best of times

As an FYI - the Pilot/Flying J app will tell you which stations/locations have fuel and those that do not. The app is updated frequently and represents the supply situation at the time of posting.

Safe travels and good luck!

In my part of north west Ohio no stations are closed and all stations have gas, diesel or both. Gas 2.81/2.86 diesel 3.15/3.25.

Use GasBuddy to find gas/diesel

So far diesel has been easy to come by here along 64. The best way to find stations with fuel is using gasbuddy.com or their app. It’s been very accurate locally. We’re prepping for a trip down 85 and I’ve been checking stations to see where diesel is available...so far, so good. Good luck!

If you have the Gas Buddy App, You can pick out some gas stations/Truck stops on your route and call ahead directly to those locations for a status on their fuel situation. If you have a couple 5 gallon gas cans you probably should carry a couple as emergency back up in case you find yourself short on fuel and find fuel scarce where you happen to be. The situation continues to improve but it will take time to get all the stations back to normal. It doesn't appear diesel is an issue but you need to be prepared just in case.

Gas Buddy

Get the gas Buddy app and the TSD fuel card. Once you set up an account with TSD you can use their map to do a fuel price search within a 150 mile radius.
The gas Buddy app now shows which stations have gas, diesel and power.

We are leaving Nashville in he morning. Been using both apps to get here from central Texas. No problems at all. We will be in Bar Harbor Maine for Memorial Day weekend.
